SSL SUB Replacement idea
Well I have already replaced the stock SSL sub with a MTX 8" sub and a Rockford amp, and I just need more bass than that. I just bought a Pioneer shallow mount 10" 250w RMS and a new Alpine Mono amp that is 220w RMS. I plan on mounting the sub in the stock SSL box as well. I know that I will have to trim the hole a bit, but the holes for the speaker grille should be the same size as a 10... so we shall see. I know why don't I just get a fiberglass box..... I wan't my trunk to look as stock as possible, and with the SSL box in the back the carpet is trimmed for it and there is no need for 2 boxes if you can utilize that one. Hopefull everything will go off without a hitch as I am planning. I am on deployment at the moment but will be back shortly, and will give you guys an update after everything is installed.

I know some have had success with aftermarket 10" subs. Hopefully yours will be good too.
A lot of people overlook the shallow subs.
Good luck and definitely keep us posted!

I went ahead and built a 4th order box for my JL10. With a 4th order box, all the sound comes out a single port. I sent the 3" port up through the center seatbelt retractor hole into the cabin. It hits very well, with almost zero rattles. But certianly takes up more space in the trunk than the stock box, which i know defeats the space benifit of the stock box. I just can't imagine getting any good sound out of that stock box, even with a better driver.

Well if you look at the reccomended airspace for the Pioneer shallow mount the stock box is almost dead on.... I will be adding polyfill also , so we shall see. I am still on deployment at the moment so I won't beable to install it for another month or so... I will post pics of the install, and give an update when I get back.

Ok finally got back home and put the Pioneer Premier shallow mount sub into the SSL box. It took a bit of fabrication, but I got it in, and it really sounds good! Alot more bass than the MTX 8 I had in the box, and it is still in the stock box. All in all I am very pleased with it.

wow im totally thinking about taking out my 2 10 inch elemental 10ks and getting a single 8 for weight and space reasons.
i may build a spacer in an ssl sub box and run a 10!

hey guys
this is what im gonna use to mount a 10 inch woofer into an SSL box.
http://www.edesignaudio.com/ringbuilder_advanced.php
get a custom made 8 inch ring that extends out to a 10 inch ring to bring the sub out and alot it to clear the ssl box. I will be filling it with polyfill to get a larger airspace volume.
