Drives: 2010 Bathurst Black Genesis Coupe V6 Track

Pioneer 6900 and Maxtor OneTouch

I'm having a problem with my Pioneer 6900UB reading my 120GB Maxtor OneTouch. It's already been formatted at NTFS. When I plug it into the headunit the hard drive will just spin and the display on the headunit will read no device. The cable that runs from the headunit to the hard drive is only about three feet long. Can anybody assist me with this?

If it's anything like my JVC AVX-800 then you will need to format the drive as a FAT32. If you are running Vista, it doesn't like formatting as FAT32 when the drive is over 32gb. In this situation, go to the 'run' command line and type:

format [drive letter]: /FS:FAT32

It takes a while, but does work. For some reason, the usb line isnt compatible with the NTFS format used in computers mainly for XP and Vista.

How do you format a hard drive to FAT32 that is already formatted to NTFS for Windows XP?

Disregard above because I got in contact with Seagate to find out how. It would have been a lot easier if this head unit would read NTFS.

I still can't get this damn thing to work. I was able to reformat the hard drive to FAT32 but it still won't read. It keeps saying "No Device". Anybody have any advice?

you might not be getting enough power to the drive. I have the p6000ub and I have a iomega 160gb and a simpletech 160gb and the iomega works fine but the simpletech sometimes doesn't get enough juice to start up. do you have the usb extension cable that came with your deck installed? if you do you might take that out and just plug the drive into the dongle on the back of the player. the shorter the cable the less power loss
hope this helps,

here is a program that gets around the 32GB problem with FAT32

to the OP the maxter might be rated higher then 500mah, if that is the case the only way that you will get it to work is to have a second source for power

I don't have the extension plugged into the connection in the back. I only have a (I believe it is) 3 foot USB cable going from the stereo connection in the back to the hard drive. I can plug my MP3 player into it and it works fine but it won't work on the Maxtor OneTouch. I might look at getting an even shorter cable. I'm going to get in contact with Pioneer today and see what they say as well.

Drives: like the Slowskys!!!

Send a message via AIM to NoTec
I also think the radio doesnt output enough power through the usb port to power your hardrive.

Pioneer was of no use. They don't have a list of what drives do and don't work so they are totally useless. I'm going to try a shorter cable and if that doesn't work then I'll probably look at getting a different hard drive.

I finally fixed this damn thing. I used the cable that came with the hard drive. It's about a foot shorter. I knew the length of the cable had an effect, but I would have thought only using a three foot cable would have been fine. Apparently I was wrong. I wanted to mount it in my center cubby but the shortness of the cable prevented that so I had to mount it in the glove compartment.
