Wiring question

Hi guys. I am a noobie when it comes to stero and wiring stuff. Anyways, I just removed 2x 12' subs from my trunk. I noticed there are two wire (bigger than any other wires) that would make sparkle when they touch each other. They are like half feet away from each other. So my question is it safe to drive like this or I should go buy some electrical tape and put it on those two wires. Please help a newbie out, Thanks.

Ummm...if they are sparking, common sense should dictate you resolve the issue, whether electrical tape or removing the wires altogether if not in use. If they are bigger than other wires they are probably power from the battery and/or ground

tape them up and make sure you have removed your fuse from under the hood sounds like your power and ground wires

If they still spark like that, then you have no fuse in your power/ground lines and you need to remove them, or keep them far away from eachother. I would remove it. Also if you re-install the system, you need to install a fuse to the power wire. You risk killing your battery while driving, or worse causing a condition called thermal-runaway which could damage many things under your hood. Disconnect the ground/black terminal from your battery first, then remove the power/red. Then find those wires and remove them.

I just tape the two big wires with electrical tape and I'll have someone to install the system back for me in a couple days. Hope nothing would go wrong.

Look in your engine bay for one of these wires... you will HOPEFULLY find a fuse, in that wire, NEAR THE BATTERY, to remove.

It will look something like this:

Twist (or unscrew) and pull the fuse out, then twist (or screw) it back together. (dont get any thing metal near your battery or else your gonna have some really big sparkle and possible chemical burns)

You should find a friend that knows what they're doing or take it to a shop and see if a salesman wouldn't come out and tape them up before you burn your car down. I'd like to think they'd do it for free. At least we would at the shop I used to work at.

No... you guys got it all wrong... you're supposed to connect the wires together by hand untill it stops sparking. It's the same thing as connecting an amp.

Just kidding, you would be so dead. Just disconnect the power cord and electrical tape the ground for now.

Ummm no. Taping the ground does nothing. The live wire is the one that should be taped. Actually, the fuse should be removed, and if there isn't a fuse, then one should be put in, or the wire disconnected completely from the battery.

Those two wire you see are the power and ground wires for your amp. what you need to do is find out which one is the power wire and electric tape the crap out of it so it doesn't touch anything not just the other wire. if you can distinguish which wire is power and which one is ground then electric tape them both immediately like yesterday.
