Drives: a $65k car i can sell for 20

FOCAL audiophile setup

Ok so right from the start let me get one MAJOR point across. MY INTENTIONS FOR THIS CAR ARE NOT ALL-OUT PERFORMANCE. This is my daily driver, It will never see any track time, ever. This is not like my silver KNIEVO, or my 6.5 TME, I commute about 200 miles 5 days a week. plus i have a HUGE fear of flying so it goes cross country alot. like at least ounce a month theres a 1,000+ mile trip (each way) I am not a fan of sub woofers at all. especially in an evo for many reasons ( draw on battery, wieght, not really a fan of rift rap rapidy doo b/s, Im white, etc etc etc)

so with that being said here is the current setup on this vehicle:

i know im forgetting some stuff but you get the jist of it.

MOTOR

HKS 280's (I & E)
Vishnu cam gears
20g green (ported manifold/compressor/etc)
Vishnu Signature series downpipe and HFC
WORKS apeture throttle body
SAMCO intercooler couplers
GREDDY R spec frount mount
AMS & GREDDY conglomerate piping
RSR cat back
PPI ported intake manifold
WORKS drop in filter

TRANSMISSION

TRE stage 3 rebuild (from new core)
TRE stage ? transfercase with cusco limited slip (1.5 way)
TRE rear diff (modified clutch packs)
cusco twin carbon clutch

SUSPENSION

MR bilstiens
Swift MR springs
whiteline bumpsteer elimination kit
ams rear diff bushings
avid motor mounts
speed source shifter base bushings
speed source under hood bushings
weapon r motor dampner
weapon r master cylander brace
WORKS rear sway bar
cusco front sway bar
agency power rear control arms
perrin endlinks

FUEL
walborro 255
ams 720 cc injectors
perrin fuel rail

ENGINE MANAGEMENT

JDM map sensor
Inovative LC 1
sp engineering intercooler temp sensors
blitz TT (activated by clapping )
every defi sensor known to man
defi HUD (took it out for now, to ricey for a DD)

AUDIO

48 square feet of dynamatt extreme
4 square feet of dynamatt classic
JVC single din navigation
all monster cable (everything)
Kicker 150 amp fuse

focal k2 power components front
focal k2 power components rear
alpine mrp 550f

so this car is plenty fast for a DD, i just hate how loud it is. its unbearable at times. so i could justify putting in 48 square feet of x treme

12 SQUARE FEET OF DYNAMAT EXTREME WEIGHS 7.1 POUNDS MULTIPLY THAT BY 4 AND YOU HAVE A TOTAL OF 28LBS

that i can live with plus i only wiegh about 170lbs. so its justifiable IMO. but mainly is im sick of crap speakers and a whining/chatering tranny that sounds like its going to take off at any second. the drone gets pretty bad after 20 hours straight of driving.

so i started with the floor becase sound travels up than side to side.

after doing the complete floor i wanted to do the inner and outer skins of the front doors. followed by as much of the fire wall that i could get to with out removing the dash. finally under the back seat to silence the walboro.

i think the most benifcial thing for sound quality was the mdf board speaker mounts and the inner door skins, then classic ontop of the speaker mounts.

i think the most beneficial thing for annoying sound was under the center counsel and part of the firewall.

all and all it was well worth it i can finally hear my passengers, talk on the phone at highway cruising speeds etc etc.

and those focals are so bad ass, i dont know how anyone can hate on them. there perfectly clear no distortion (even from my not so great deck) only thing that isnt ideal about them is there are no lows, like at all. but whatever i love them!

so total cost of project doing it yourself (no labor)
420ish for the dynamat
2kish about 1000 per component set
200 bucks for really nice wire and fuse block
400ish for the amp

about 3200 said and done if paying straight retail with out labor including taxes

would i do it again?

hells yes!

and heres: the pics of my install

Nice install.

By the way, your fuse is too large for your system. You should be using a 60A fuse.

I'm sure you'd hate for all that dynamat to go up in flames... (Actually, Dynamat is not very flammable, but you get my drift )

Very nice install!! I recently finished my stereo install and also am pretty annoyed by my exhaust. I'm going to try and put on a quieter exhaust first and then Dynamat my floor if that doesn't help.

Are you going to run a seperate EQ? I too am running the same speakers (front and rear K2P components) off an Alpine 4.150 and a 12w7 run off an Alpine 1.1000 and running a seperate AudioControl EQS. . Just getting the money together for the install at this point as I've done my share of installs and I'm just too lazy to do it this time around....not to mention my luck dictates that I'd break a crucial clip somewhere in the car....haha!

Very cool! How long do you figure it took you to do just the floor and firewall?

i didnt pull the dash just went really far up (as far as my skinny arms could reach with the roller thingy), but to really thoroughly cut all the lil pieces to fully dampen the floor and part of the firewall your goin to be in there for at least 12 hours maybe 2 days if you like

it makes a HUGE difference.

yeah evos are VERY leaky, there's allot of wholes in are doors , i just did my best to cover all the little wholes with dynamat and i am going to to get some clorafoam for added security there some damn expensive speakers for just components. i have a set of utopias in my pork chop, but there fiber glassed into the door and i might do the same here.

no i dont plan on running a separate EQ, no point with this setup. IMO.

im not running any subs so i dont know what i would gain. i set EQ in the deck to flat and use the amp to fine tune. set the db's on the crossovers at 3.

i have a epicenter in another car thats strictly for bassy tunes but that basically only helps the subs to hit notes that would be untouchable without it.
