need help w/ cigar lighter fuse blowing

this might be OT but here goes:

I hooked up 2 accessories to my cig lighter outlet at the same time.
Radar detector and other one is a portable air compressor w/c after a few sec of usage, my fuse blew up and came w/ it a foul smell inside the cabin.
I replaced the 15A fuse twice but everytime I plug in the radar detector(only), the fuse kept on blowing up .

PLs help on what to do next?

Thanks!!!

Can you plug anything else in there and get it to work with out blowing a fuse? If so I would say either the cable to the radar detector is shorted or the radar detector itself is shorted...

does the fuse blow only when you plug something in, or with everything unplugged does it still blow? I have ran into a problem once where there was two small strands of wire that dropped into the lighter, no biggie until something was plugged in, then it would short.

Get a multimeter and put it on volts DC. Take the wires off the back of the cig lighter and put the black probe on the wire that was on the outer conductor of the lighter and the red probe on the wire that went to the center conductor of the lighter. This should read around 12 volts. If it reads way high you have a short somewhere. Also may have a shorted cig lighter assembly. If that is the case you can pick on up from autozone for cheap and replace it. They just screw in...
