Audio experts help....

Im more of a performance guy so I'd like some input on and audio system.

Right now I have just a headunit on a non-ssl evo. It sounds pretty good, good mids and highs but the bass does distort a lot.

I was thinking of two possible things

1) getting a self enclosed and powered sub and putting it under the seat (the Kenwood KSC-SW1 http://www.crutchfield.com/S-uX3BMvE...KSCSW1&g=51000 )

2) Getting cheap new speakers like the Blaupunkt GTc542
5-1/4" Component System for the front and Blaupunkt GTc542's in the rear. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-uX3BMvE...00&I=023GTC542

the sw1 is more like a midbass kit imo. Put a self powered sub(10") in the trunk. I.e infinity basslink, alpine PLV, kenwood ksc-wd250 etc etc. My .02. Will take up a LITTLE but more trunk space, but will deff help in the lower freq's. BTW i install kenwood everyday and Id put a sw1 in a single cab pickup that has absoolutly no room for anyhting. ha

You'll be able to get a bit more bass by adding a single 10" sub to the trunk. Nice thing about 1 10" is that you can keep weight down and do the install relatively cheap if your on a budget.

Why would you replace your stock oversized 6.5s with 5.25s. Check ebay and just buy some Focal Axis 6.5s components for the front and 6.5 coaxials for the rear. Get the mounting bracket from crutchfield or any descent audio shop. And I would go with a good 10" sub instead of those silly powered sub packages. 10w1 JL Audio will do you justice. A nice little 250 watt amp. Not sure what your looking to spend but for 5-700, you would be very impressed. Or you could just get a 5-channel amp and a JL 10w1 . That would probably cost around 3-400 and maybe another 75-100 for install if you wont be doing it yourself and it'll still sound miles ahead of the factory SSL setup. My estimates are shooting high. Im sure I would be able to find that stuff far cheaper than that. Spend your money wisely my friend. Good luck.

Yeah, + 1 to what NoTec posted. I didn't see the part about 5.25's over 6.5's. Stick with some 6.5's and a single 10" sub.

I would have done that because I spend all my time researching go fast bits and tuning as opposed to audio systems. I like to listen to my music loud and I listen to mostly rap so I'd like some more bass. This is why I posted this instead of just buying the parts, because I have little to no idea what Im doing.

I will be doing my own work, so you don't have to account for install charges.

For the most part, you'll have better midbass response from the 6.5's than the 5.25's. Since you probably listen to a lot of bass heavy music, make sure you go with the 6.5's. Plus the factory size is 6.75.
