Anyone upgraded Subwoofer speaker?
Well... There is time for me to replace the stock 8" Sub on the SSL system.
Anyone has done this before?
If so... what speaker did you choose? I am wondering what fitment issues you guy ran into swapping the speaker.
I would appreciate your help!

I think most will agree that the amp is more important than the sub...
If you have a really good class D mono amp, then it will make most any sub hit hard... although it will likely blow out a stocker, so they really go hand in hand.
I don't think you'll see any benefit to replacing just the sub.
From everything I've seen and heard, JL Audio makes the downright sweetest equipment. It's powerful, extremely smooth, and they are very conservative with their power ratings, unlike most manufacturers.
If you look at JL Audio subs and amps, here's a power chart to make sure they are properly matched: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/RecPowerChart.pdf
I don't know if it would fit, but you could look into getting an 8w7 with a 300/2 amp and bridge it. That'd be a pretty sweet setup.

I replaced the whole sub assembly with a JL Audio 10W3v2 and JL built box. I also ran a seperate amp (JL 250/1). Internals are still SSL factory. Just the right amount of bass and not alot of weight. Just my .02

Thanks for the info!
I am also looking for JLs as well.
Just concern about what speakers could fit into the OEM Infinity box. Any ideas/recommendations?
I am trying to keep the OEM look of the SSL subwoofer box!

What is the airspace on the factory box?
You can find out by filling it with water or by using styrofoam peanuts.

I will find out this weekend or as soon as I get a chance.
I think that I have styrofoam peanuts.... but not sure if I have enough to fill the box.

Cool, when you find out the airspace, picking out a speaker is simple. You can use one that needs a bit more airspace than you have to get tighter bass response, or you can go with one that needs a lot less airspace than you current SSL box, that will give you a little bit boomier bass. Hope this helps, please post up when you find out.
