Im thinking of installing sub on my own....

My buddy works for best buy as an installer and does it on the side but he doesnt have time to do it during the days I have free, so I go the following setup:

1. ROCKFORD FOSGATE P210D2 PUNCH P2
1. ROCKFORD FOSGATE P250 Amplifier
1. Box for the sub
1. 8 AWG Amplifier Install Kit

I want to do this on my own to learn a bit, and save 100.00 dllrs on install, any tips and tricks? if someone can help me in this area, id appreciate it. thanks guys

- make sure you have the rest of the materials you need for the install (cable to go from the receiver to the amp and wire to go from the amp to the sub)

- figure out where you plan to run all of the cables and wires before you start

- make sure you have plenty of tools at your disposal for your plan (a drill if you are going to drill through the firewall, a multimeter can also be handy to have)

- plan to spend an entire day doing this

- avoid drilling through the firewall, unless you have plans for other things to go through the factory placed grommets

- do not run the audio signal lines next to the power line

Forgot one of the most important ones...

- when you are running the power line, keep the battery disconnected

the install should be easy just do it yourself.

Assuming this is a prefab box (and this even applies for some custom boxes), make sure it is well sealed inside. Get some acoustic caulking (silicone caulking that stays flexible) and line each corner of the box. When you put the sub in the box, make sure it is well sealed and securely tightened.

If you have any air leaks, it will sound like crap.

man you guys, you guys gave me some good info, but once i opened the box to the box and the sub, I stopped because I didnt know wtf to do and howto plug the cable to the box, talk to me about computers but when it comes down to this Im kinda afraid, guess ill let a bud do it, he wants to install the whole thing for 40.00 i thought that was cheap and offered him 60.00 instead

Nothing wrong with drilling a new hole in the firewall, use a new grommet.

In a bass only application, it doesnt make any difference to separate power from signal.



You can have the battery hooked up during install, but dont install the new fuse untill all of you connections are complete. Your ground M U S T be on a PAINT FREE metal surface, and i dont mean sheetmetal. Check for gas tanks before screwing anything down.
