custom fiberglass sub box

Hey everyone, i am making a custom fiberglass subwoofer box for the truck of our evos. this is the first one. it is made entirely of fiberglass, with a MDF donut for the sub to screw into. right now i am still in the process of sanding the surface smooth before i make a mold out of it.

heres what it looks like for a 12:

i designed it to follow the contour of the wheel well. it takes up very little space this way, yet it still has plenty of volume for the sub. i'll measure the volume precisely when i'm finished sanding.

and this thing is MUCH lighter then a comparable MDF box. just thought i would throw that in there.

looking really good so far, but is that enough space for the sub? or is it a smaller sub?

Looks like good fitment to me. Are you going to use velcro to hold in place? carpeting over the enclosure as well? What's the total weight as is? Lastly, what about the possibilities of porting?

THX!!!!

that looks like some pretty good fitment... i like how you didn't continue the enclosure all the way to the top and towards the backseat... looks good... how long did that take you?

whoops! i forgot to subscribe to my own thread. i thought this one died and there was not interest!

i have sanded it to the point where i can carpet it and give pictures of it complete.

as far as airspace, i'll certainly measure that as soon as i get home. the mounting depth is more then enough to hold my infinity kappa perfect 12.

i keep putting this project off because i just didn't get much interest, but it seems like there is the interest.

as for what subs it will fit: i'll be starting with the passenger side only, and sized for a 12. once i get that working smoothly, the production process will allow me to use different front faces so i can make a 10, or a square. i'll also be able to mirror it for a driver side.

the fitment is actually better now then in that picture. i'm working on the edges and making them uniform distance from the sides of the truck, as well as keeping the edges straight. it was made entirely by hand so as you can imagine it has taken me a very long time.

yes. i am still considering the best way to secure it down... but a requirement is that the access panel can still be accessed. as is, the box is contoured to the panel so you could remove it without removing the box.
