Which Sub, Alpine Type R or Fosgate P3?

I am currently thinking of either a single 12" Alpine Type R or Rockford Fosgate P312D4. I listen to a wide variety of music and SPL isn't what I'm going for. I'm going for SQ. I do have the option of running 2 P3's but due to space and weight I want to try 1. The reason I've picked these is because I can get them at the best price. I am looking for a ported enclsoure to get more boom in the cabin, will i loose a lot of SQ?

Any Opinions?

My current setup is a JL 500/1 and 13w6v2 in a sealed enclosure.

Why don't you try your current setup on a ported enclosure? I think you don't really need a sub upgrade.

Well because I can get the other stuff so cheap, I want to sell it and free up some cash. And to make a custom box for the 13w6v2 would be expensive.

I'm still considering keeping the jl setup though.

For the Type R, if in a ported enclosure, will the music be more sloppy or do you think it'll be just as precise?

Any negatives about kenwood amps?

Go for a Cervin Wega 12D4 and have it running at 2 ohms. THat amp will thump the hell out of a dual voice coil...

12w6v2 if you want a good SQ setup... but you might say I'm a little biased.

you don't have enough amp for a 13. You also need to read up and understand for porting is all about since you made it clear you're not quite sure. The basic deal is that you port to a certain frequency and then that becomes as low as you can go. You get louder, but at a cost in range and control.

I would vote that you should just keep your current sub and try adding more power. I metered over 130 db untuned so I don't see why you couldn't get 140 with enough power. You have one of the best subs ever made... why downgrade? Also, are you really sure you have the right size box for your sub?

another option you might want to look at if all this doesn't help is trading your sub for a 12w7v2 which is more of a bump sub compared to the w6 which is more sq
