Door Wiring Rubber Boot/Tunnel SECRET TIP -- a must-read for component installs!
Hey there...
I just spent about 3 hours installing the woofers in my front doors, with most of the time being spent trying to run new wiring through the flexible rubber boot/tunnel between the door and the car body. I went through two coat hangers, stiff speaker wire, and all of my patience with no success.
Until, I came up with the ultimate solution:
Take an old coax cable (the kind used to hook-up cable tv). Cut off one end and wrap the end with a small piece of electrical tape so it's smooth. You now have the ultimate tool!
I recommend starting at the door side, cut a small slit in the rubber boot, and run the cable through the rubber boot in the door. It'll only take about a minute with minimal "fishing" to get through and you'll soon see it poking into the car cabin. Once it's through, use masking tape to attach about 4-5" of your speaker wire to the end of the coax cable, and carefully pull it back through to the door.
This whole process shouldn't take more than 5 minutes...
