Evo 8 speaker and amp help

Hello All,

I am new to the forum and to the Evo. I bought a 2005 Evo VIII for my son last year and am doing some work on it while he is away at school. I installed the stereo from his old car minus a few peices since he doesn't want the extra weight. I installed a Clarion DRZ9255 Head unit with Focal Utopia 165W speakers in the front. I have an extra set of Utopia 165W3 components that I was thinking of putting in the rear. The 6 1/2's fit well in the rear deck. Has anyone put additional speakers in the rear doors? If so how? The 165W3 has a pair of 5-3/4 midrange's. I also was thinking of placing the other tweeters in the deck. I have a 4 channel amp hooked up to these but wanted to use the factory sub. I have a pair of large 10 Idmax subs but my son doesn't want the added weight of these and the weight of the other large amp. I still have the factory amp and conectors with factory sub. I need to hook up new head unit RC outputs to the factory amp and what wires run from the amp to the sub? Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks
mjo

I guess as long as you have 2 extra channels you could run rear door speakers as well although I haven't seen it done on the evo. Wiring etc would be a breeze and you could basically mimic the way the fronts are wired and routed and then run them down the sides, under the rear seat and into the trunk or wherever you have the amp(s). I'm not sure how the imaging would be though unless you added a center channel and did some sort of 6.1 setup with wiring the rear deck speakers as one channel.

The Utopia's come with the crossovers so the 4 channels from the amp are all I need for the cabin speakers. The HU itself has 8 channels including the subs. I guess I'll place everything in the car on the floor and listen to them like that first.

My main concern is the stock amp and sub. How would I wire them into this system. I have mainly bypassed all the stock wiring and have added larger wires. I have run 0 gauge to the trunk for the amp so I have pleanty of juice for it back there. Does the stock sub run off of the stock amp that the speakers did? How would I set it up from scratch assuming all the stock wiring was taken out of the car. Thanks for your help.
