Small PC (mac mini style) with Vista...

I want to put either a Mac Mini or a PC with Vista RC1 on it (for touch screen functions) and connect it to my AVIC-D1.

how would i go about doing this? cause i don't see how converting VGA -> composite and connecting it to the AVIC-D1 will allow me to use the touch screen features on the PC. I was thinking that the only way this could work is with a wireless keyboard and mouse. like the Media Center keyboard thats designed to be held in your hand with the built in joystick mouse. Or am i missing something?

(plus i want to get an Edge card through cingular for wireless internet anywhere i drive )

I hate to say this to you, but you shouldn't have used the avic-d1 as your head unit. that way you could just buy a cheap touch screen monitor for your pc and head unit. I guess your only other option is to buy another screen and mount it on the dash or in the visor so that you could use it for your pc. You could also check out my carputer in the thread entitled "doing a stereo install...(pg 11)" There's some good specs and you can always customize it. My decision with the keyboard/mouse was to get this wireless keyboard with a built-in joystick. I also connected gps and the ecu plus to my carputer, but what are you planning on using yours for anyways? You already have a nice head unit.

Why do you want a computer in your car though? You have a fast car with nice sounds, there's not really a need for it. Do also plan on playing WoW while driving?

haha..no WoW (i haven't played in months! lol) but i want it for the 'wow' factor...and its just something to do. Plus it would be cool on road trips...my passengers could be online, checking emails...on AIM etc etc...

right now i have my video ipod hooked up to the D1 so passengers can watch movies or tv shows while i'm driving.

Mark, just tie the VGA --->composite to your LCD screen and buy a gyro controlled remote mouse or a knob based input device (sup iDrive). You can't use the D1 LCD for input control but you could setup a very easy and usable combination by experimenting with wirless control devices.

The screen should be decent enough to pass as a crap monitor, but you'll have to make sure the resolution is insanely low.

If you want to up the entertainment capabilities, then you'll have to get a seperate signal processor for your Pioneer that allows for SPDIF input.
