Looking to purchase EcuTek...

Well I just bought a '03 VIII and wanted to get some type of tuning and datalogging system before I begin modifying the car. What all do I need to begin using EcuTek? What are the capabilities? Does it have datalogging? What items need to be purchased or downloaded? Thanks,

-Robert

In Short, Please do not get ECUtek. They're support of the evo market is non-existant. In addition to the over inflated price, My advice would be to spend some time in the ecuflash forum. You will find it has what your looking for at a much better price. I was a Ecutek user and am just now making the switch over to using ecuflash, specifically because it lets me tweak my own car where ecutek did not (no user tuning). Ecutek also has no special logging tools where ecuflash does(evoscan, mitsulogger).

There is something called the Easy ECU that ECUtek offers that allows the user to change maps via a laptop (maps for 91 octane, 96 octane, and 101 octane, for example).

Over-inflated price? $650.00 compared to???

I think the effectiveness is based on the tuner and dyno-tuning. And like anything else in this world, which flash is better is personal opinion...sounds to me you are basing your opinions of ECUtek on what your tuner has sold you on, but to each his own. Power is power...I gained 120whp with basic bolt-ons and ECUtek...

My opinion, ECUtek FTMFW!!

Um OK... First off do you have a link to this "easy ecu" I have contacted ECUTEK myself numerous times to hear nothing like that. I could be wrong but thats what I was told. I am also yet to be tuned using ecuflash and am still running on my ECUTEK tune, but I am having fun getting to learn the ecuflash software, and logging using evoscan.Ecutkek has no logging option for evos. For the price of ECUTEK it should come with what they said was coming down the pipeline, such as user tuning, logging, and map switching. You are the only person I have heard of that knows someone who is using this new user tuning feature. I would like to see some evidence. And when I refer to the over-inflated price I am obviously talking about the cost difference between ECUTEK and a Tactrix cable. I completely agree with you that both methods of tuning are tools. Whichever your tuner prefers to use is usually best. But how can you justify a 600$ licensing fee?
I can't anymore, not with the lack of support for the evo market. I thought when I paid it that it would help to fund some of the massive r&d it takes to develop features like real-time logging, map switching, etc. Now open source is doing what ECUTEK would'nt, constantly developing more features...for less money. Go figure.

I have not personally used or seen this EasyECU. However, I was offered it by my tuner in order to prevent having to run 101 octane all the time. This is something I am assuming that it can be done strictly through this particular tuner. I didn't ask much more about it because I am not currently interested in this. Sorry if this doesn't help...I was only offered it and I highly doubt my tuner would offer something that doesn't exist...

I think ECUTEK can modify the intercooler water spray function so that it sprays more/less and different trigger temperatures, whereas (at least the most recent ECUFLASH i have) does not have this function available for modification... this would be one difference that could make quite a big difference to those of us who push our cars and need that extra temperature control?

Great advice. Ecutek is garbage.
