Universal USDM rom

The question continues to come up about a universal VIII USDM rom. Rather than cluttering up the v7 thread, let's discuss options here.

I have a very well defined 94170015 that I am willing to give as the guinne pig if anyone so desires. The XMLs are a little messy, but everything that has been noted to date is in there.

USDM VIII ROM listing

94170008
94170014
94170015
96420007
96420008
96940011

I say we use the 9417 as the universal USDM EVO 8 ROM.

What the hell?

It seems pretty well established that the 9653XXXX rom is the EVO 8 rom that's going to be supported.

If people would just put half the effort they are using to resist into figuring out the relatively minor issues in using this rom, it wouldn't be an ongoing issue.

Sorry I resist. If you read in the V7 thread, You'll see all my cons towards switch to an EDM (9653) ROM from a USDM ROM. I think if you read it, you may agree I have some valid points.

Also, I didnt try to blow this up so much. I just asked tephra if he would possibly do a USDM ROM cuz of my concerns and the topic kinda blew up.

Sorry, but no, I don't agree with your notion to use a USDM ROM because the car is USDM.

If we are going to pick a ROM, it is very simple. Pick ONE EVO 8 ROM that will fit the needs of the largest majority of people. If 94170015 happens to have the most functions and ends up being the best defined and would work in EVERY EVO 8 out there, great. But right now, I would bet the 96530006 rom is more thoroughly defined and patched then any other EVO 8 ROM.

From an emissions perspective, it doesn't matter if you are changing the fuel table in a completely stock rom or an EDM rom, you are breaking the law either way. California or not. Modifying the factory ECU is illegal. Just like disabling the EGR valve or EVAP system.

Different tables. From what I have noticed, the EVO 8 ROMs are ALMOST identical in most of the maps. Yes, there are some minor differences, but if people would stop jumping back and forth and just settle on one ROM, it could be much more heavily developed and the minor bugs could be ironed out. We could stop this stupid BS of jumping back and forth between "standard" roms.

Okay. Thats all fine. It your opinion.

I never meet to start "stupid BS of jumping back and forth between "standard" roms".

All I did was ask if tephra would make a USDM V7 and I said I would donate more, even though I have already donated towards V7.

I guess I should have just sent my request to tephra in private and just paid him to do one V7 USDM ROM for me. Sorry

edit - Oh but his PM is full....

I understand and see your point that you feel you are trying to help the community.

However, I just differ in opinion and feel that the community would get much more benefit from using a standard rom and focusing heavily on perfecting it.

Im just picky about my car and wanna run an USDM ROm with V7 mods.

Like I said, I realize now that I should have just sent my request to tephra in private.

^ACD has its own ECU. the 96940011 rom should be tossed as it doesn't have enough room to support map switching...

+1 on both.

The ACD has its own ECU and yes, 9694 should not even be considered because it has no extra room for mods

I may have missed something early on, but why was the 9653xxxx chosen initially as the USDM 'upgrade'? Are there actual improvements in the OEM code over the USDM ROMs?

I read EVO_Kid's list of pros and cons, but I'd like to see the pros and cons from the initial selection process.

Back in V4 or V5, I recall a plan was hatched to standardize on one ROM per market. Has that changed?

So far, I'm happy with 96530706, FWIW.

Can 9417 not be run on the cars that originally came with 9653? Why was 9653 chosen over 9417 for a universal rom?

I am okay dealing with the 96530706 because it is very close to the 2005 96940011 rom in many aspects ( mainly the main ISCV table) so it isn't that bad. The worst part was the cold start issue, but I got that handled.

I can see it being an issue for the 03-04 guys as a lot of stuff is different...
