maybe worth some whp.

Oh really?
And the thing that really perplexes me is that there should be no reason why it jumped to 5 in the first place. Following the rpm and load through my log and my timing map, it doesn't make sense why it hit 5* of timing...
Oh, and knock will take away power.

i know knock takes away power. there was a couple dyno threads on here that fully explained what i am trying to say.

Its confusing me why its jumping because the values it used during that run weren't the ones in the cells it hit. My timing map is pretty damn smooth too. Perplexes me...

Ive seen occasions where 1 count will actually pull 1* on my IX... post up your map, and a log, and well try to work it out... look at your load at that rpm point, did it drop you into a lower cell?

he should make a new post. i have seen times when 2 counts of knock has not affected my timing at all...
to the OP - did you try the map i showed?
also can you post a log of a gear change from 3rd to 4th so we can see whats causing the issue, this should be pretty simple.

Have you double checked and made sure your Downpipe isnt hitting anything when the engine moves during a shift and making knock?
With one of my EVOs I had a problem with shift knock. I tried to tune it away, lowering timing kinda like the pic in this thread, and still couldnt get rid of it. Checked my downpipe and it was hitting the diff (ACD) slightly during shifts. Took a hammer to it (the Dp that is, lol) and made some clearance, and the shift knock went away.
my advice, check out your downpipe and make sure its not hitting anything. also be very thorough.

No more false info please! 3 counts of knock will pull 1* of timing. I am having trouble remembering right now if 1 count will pull 1/3 of a degree.
Are you looking at the high octane map or the low octane map for your comparison that is off?
NO ONE here can help you if you don't post a log, but I'm 99% sure that one of the two answers we have already give is the answer you need.

each 1 knocksum will pull 1/3 of a degree
JB worked out that best power was just before/coming onto det (uk pump fuel)
so 1's, 2's, and the occasional 3 is fine.
(remember if you were listening with cans you still wouldn't here any det at this level)
quite a few lads in the uk are now 'desensitising' the knock sensors in certain areas (tuning with cans) and getting more power out of the car.
