Attached are a couple of pics of the sensor... They are pics i took a while back, with a my phone's camera, so sorry about the quality.
The sensor is actually the oil drain plug, as you can see in the pictures, so it is immersed in oil.
Removing the sensor will trigger a p0710 cel, which can be solved by putting any resistor between 75 and 135k ohm.
Removing the sensor will not trigger the "M/T Temp" light to turn on.

Thanks for the pics. Now I can see its in direct contact with the gear oil.

Wow removing the tray actually allows the trans to run hotter, huh wouldn't have thought that.

Mattjin,
In the 88840016 ROM, the subroutine starts at 0x13A44.
Darwinn,
I'll take a look at the subroutine more over the next few days. I too am curious to see how the status is passed to the WGDC control subroutine.

Interesting indeed. Could it be to do with airflow? I.e the stock undertray helps guide the air flowing under the car such a way that it goes past the tranny and wicks away heat, while without the air isn't as guided as well?
I guess some of those people who have been tossing that tray are going to start putting it back on now .

I never liked the idea of removing the undertray and mentioned it a few times in years past, but since certain 'big shops' on this board do it, everyone does it and you can never win a 'discussion'.

If you look at the tray, it isn't just a "tray" but has air channels, etc designed into it.

It is what I expected, no sensor or over-temp and it will cut the boost to save the tranny. Thanks MrFred, I will start having a poke around and see what I can find too.

it would be nice to have this working and maybe limit the WDGC or the rpm if it exceeds the set temps. that may save the tranny most of all for the 6-speeds.
