how much timing do you run?

I have an 850R, but I trying to get some opinions on timing.. I was doing some loggin and noticed through 4th gear I'm starting around 7 degrees and ending up at 10degrees and was thinking that was really low timing.

of course big turbo applications would be most helpful and pump gas 93...

thanks.

IX's don't need as much timing as VIII's because they are more efficient. Everyones setup is also different, who tuned your car?

comparing timing values is pointless unless the other cars are running the same mods/boost/octane

a stock turbo car at 20psi can run 20*+ but a 35R at 30psi making double the hp won't run near that much.

yeah bit of a pointless thread...

never TRY and run the same timing as other ppl... just tune your own car in little steps and u'll be right!

Does anyone have any theories as to why some cars can run/ need more timing to make power? It seems like my car runs a few degrees more timing than anybody else around. I've never really worried about it because the fueling is right and it's making good, knock-free power. I was just curious.

Could merely be the accuracy of the ignition system trigger plate/pickup location.

Could be carbon deposits.

Could be minor setup differences that actually have a big impact on cylinder filling/air distribution.

Could be injector balance.

Going off a knock sensor and not doing individual cylinder tuning means that you tune to the weakest cylinder. If something in the setup for some reason makes one cylinder prone to detonation, you limit the power of the motor to what only the weakest cylinder can make. Keep everything well balanced where every cylinder is at optimum performance though and it can make a huge difference in how aggressive you can run the tune and how much power you can make.

Yeah That's a good thought ^^ and keys with every car is a little different, at reading the CAS etc

My VII just doesnt like much timing but I dont stress over it. If anyone asks I usually tell them to tune it for what the car likes. Just takes iterations and time.
