I see, I scaled rpm to RPM and I get 0-2000 in 250 rpm increments. Did he by any chance give you the correction coefficient formula(scaling name)?

That was the whole of what I was given unfortunately
So you are just using normal RPM? I will give it a shot and see what it looks like then.

Mrfred, on DSM's they did not have a cold start timing map, they just ran more timing when cold, no timing correction when up to temp, and less timing when overheating.
I thought on evo's though that the three timing maps were for engine cold, engine warm, and limp mode?

^ I don't think anyone has ever figured out what the three timing maps actually do. They just say "trust me" and make them all the same!
I'm not sure who this thread is aimed at..... is it for the E85 users or is it for the folks that have a jerky cold engine drive for the first few minutes of their commute?
My 9 doesn't like to smoothly cruise at 3k rpm when the motor is cold....it seems to be fighting itself. I wish we could fix that.

I'm going to try to take a look at this stuff tonight. Things might be a little different between 8s and 9s. I'm disassembling a 99820006 (JDM Evo 7) right now for someone, and there are some significant differences in several places.

In my 03VIII don't see any difference(logged) in cold start timing and fully warm timing at idle, just AFR.

I used "IPW mcsec" on all 3.
The temp table looks like it will have most effect on cold start.

There has to be some. If I drive off in my car stone cold, any throttle input past just cruise, (not WOT of course), the car will stumble and choke until it warms up a bit. Feels like retarded timing to me.

I just raised my min. temp for closed loop, then richen the map up a little in the idle/cruise. By the time it warms up into close loop the changes I did to the map wont matter.
But I'm liking this thread

^ that is how I solved my cold start problem too. But, if I cold start the car let it run for 1 or 2 min, shut off for a min or 2 then restart it sets P0300 (at idle according to freeze frame). It's happened twice when I moved the car and set the ramps to raise the car to do maintenace work. Never done it before that.

what rom ID do you have, if its 94170008 then try a 94170014 that cured my p0300 problem.

AHA! I hope this is it! comparing Stock for stock values, I'm changing this to match my 14v latency number. I'll report back in the am.

My cold start AFR's are the same as my normal operating temp AFR's. Around stoic.

Oh ok mine is above 16 (the highest my wideband can read) with the ecu in close loop during cold start, so thats why I did it that way for me . You can always try richen it up to see if it makes a smooth transition for you. I set my cold start afr's to the mid 13's, my car sounds and feels better.
I know what your talking about my car did the same thing but my wideband just read lean though.

My friends 03 runs lean on cold startup as well now that you mention it. My 9 cold starts just fine. Adding some timing seems to help when driving around when warming up the motor as well on a 9 so it should help an 8 as well.
