Rear engine 4WD

Right, basically im looking in to a little project to keep me busy somethime soon, and I have some drive train questions.

Basically im looking to use an evo8 block in the rear of a track car but want to keep it 4WD. My initial thinking was to use the evo 8 block in the original orientation (basically like someone parked the front of their evo in the rear of my track car) but instead of using the E8 gearbox and transfer box, use the gear/transfer boxes from an evo 3. This would point the transfer case towards the front of the car where the rear diff would be mounted.

My question is, would this give me 5 reverse gears?? Bearing in mind that the diff can be flipped to change the drive direction, its the wheels being driven directly by the gear box that im most concerned about....

I honestly think that to be asking a question like this that this will never Actually become a project. The difficulty in this scenario is much larger than far more advanced than simply looking at a Evo 3 Gearbox which at that point you could get any DSM gearbox.

Granted, its not going to be easy, but its already well on the way. The only thing that remains is weather it will be rear or 4wd.

Also, I realise that buying a porsche would be the easiest way, but where would be the fun in that??

hell if u have the money, maybe it can be done. What you need now is for some peeps that acutally understand drivetrains [in detail] to post to your thread. Actually u should try and get in contact with a design engineer that worked on the evo drivetrain.
if your going to attempt that kind of a project, most of the peeps on evom are not going to have the information your looking for. If your just asking questions for the hell of it, then your set!

You would be best with a DSM or E3 engine & transmission. Install these in a standard orientation. Now the fancy part is to machine a custom bevel gear case so the output faces forwards. There is just enough room under the crankshaft for this to work.
With this setup it is very doable.
