Transmission filter change.

2003 Lancer ES, where is the transmission filter located? I wanted to change the fluid and filter but after removing the pan I was suprised to see the filter was not located inside of the pan. I have read the filter does not need to be replaced unless a rebuild is done. Has anyone else heard this? Thanks for the comments!!

You don't need to change this out, because they use a screen to capture the debre. I've done many like this in the past, have never changed. If you are still concered about the filter not being changed you can evact the whole system.
