Transfer Case tricks
Can someone tell me the trick of getting the transfer case out of the car? I know when I changed my clutch, we couldn't remove it fully from the car, we had to slide it to the side and tie it up out of the way. Now I have to remove it for a rebuild with the great Sheppard Transmissions and I need the trick of getting it out. Any advice on the removal is appreciated.
Thanks

according to evo moto, it just slides right off once those initial 6 bolts are removed.

No I mean to get it out of the car completely so I can put it in a case. In the EVOMOTO write up they stated that they themselves couldn't get the transfer case out of the car. It was disconnected and moved to the side (same thing I did when changing my clutch)

did you pull the small shaft from the left side of the transmision?also, what i do is loose the 2bolts and 2 nuts and pull down a few inches the crossmember that holds the rack&pinion, push the engine to the radiator side and you have plenty of space to play around and remove the transfer.

Yes...I can get it completely seperated from the car...but like the EVO moto write up I can't take the transfer case and walk away with it. I can seperate it but not physically remove it and put it in another room for example.

I'll have to give that a try. When I think about it...we didn't do that while changing the clutch. It doesn't seem like you need that much more room to get it out. Hopefully that will work.
How long did it take you to get your X-fer case out? I plan on working on it when I get out of work today. I'd like to be able to get it out today before it gets too late.

I'm still in...I just live 20 min away from the base. Plus having to keep it there till it comes back from Shep. I'll be paying for "storage fees" and I don't feel right not having my favorite toy close by and unattended. Going straight is fine but when I turn it clunks and knocks bad and the roads to base are nothing but curves. Makes for a fun drive but not when my front diff is broken.

Undo the front and rear motor mounts and swing the bottom of the motor as far forward as possible. I used a jack on the front motor mount bracket to move it up and away. than the tcase should fall out with a little persuasion.

I got it out...that rear motor mount is a B!TC#! I will never pull that mount if I don't have to. Did it when we changed the clutch and I vowed never to do it again. I ended up pulling the 4 bolts that hold the housing on the back of the transfer case. That free'd up some and then I pulled the front mount and jacked up the front of the motor ever so slightly and out it came.
