Having Clutch Probs Need Help PLEASE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK So I am drving to work and and the Evo is going into every gear fine the problem is that when I give it gas to speed up the RPM's raise about 1-2 maybe three thousand before the car starts to pull like something is not catching (clutch?) like I said I can get into every gear. Now I tried this in every gear and when I got to work which is about 6 miles if that I could smell the clutch. So that is why I am thinking well it is the clutch so if this has happenedto anyone else please let me know if it was the same symptoms or of you have had the same symptoms and it was not the clucth what was it.
Also I have heard two different things about clutch management. I have heard to push the clutch in ALL THE WAY and I have heard to push it in just enough to wear it engages and disengages the gears. And both methods will make the clutch last longer.
Need help. I also found a shop in columbus GA that will install my Exedy and Flywheel for 350. Does that sound like it is a good price.

Your clutch is toast it needs to be replaced. That's an excellent price for a clutch install.

Sup Gunner... free bump to you, my stocker went out the same way... when you get it all apart you'll be able to see more worn spots on the friction disc because it will warp a lil when it's heated up, mine was like that, but if you really found a place to do it for 350, inquire if they have ever done one in an evo before? This clutch job is no punk! But good luck on it all, let me know what you end up doing... I think I'm heading up to reynolds on Friday, they have street drags that start at 7pm on fri...

yep your clutch is gone, it is starting to slip and will get worse. $350 for a twin disc install is a steal and sounds a bit shady.....if you feel 100% confident then go ahead but this install guy better had done Evos before.....you can mess the Exedy twin disc install up if not done correctly.....

as long as the clutch is properly adjusted when it's installed and it doesn't "drag" when it's depressed then you are doing the right thing.. either with the stocker or with the aftermarket one a good way to see if your clutch is "dragging" when you depress it is to have all four wheels off the ground, when it's in gear they should naturally begin to turn when you let the clutch out, but when the clutch is depressed.. they should not try to rotate, does that make sense?
For examle when I first installed my twin, it felt like it was shifting fine and all seemed well but it infact dragged continually while depressed, and if it does that over a period of time, it would cause premature wear...
Hope that helps a lil.. let me know what you decide to do about who to have install it.. be careful about that shop claiming such a cheapo labor rate..
