I can not release any data about the tires untill we are finished testing, but what I can say is they are softer than the BFG DR by a bunch and as soft or softer than a slick.

We talked with Hoosier today, the first few R&D tires are being checked out by the engineers and I should get mine as soon as they give the OK. We also discussed our second run of these tires so there should be enough to go around. The first run are pretty much spoken for. Thanks, Indy

It's looking like late August for the first run and couple of weeks later for the second. This is not a small project and we want to get it right the first time. We have assembled a list of people that have expressed interest in these tires. Please PM me to get added to the list. The first run will be distributed by who has contacted us. We don't have any data concerning best pressures or tested pressures at this point. As soon as the tires get to Indy, we'll be on them like stink on ....well, ....you know. We're just as anxious to get some answers as anybody. What we do know is that Hoosier was very receptive to hearing exactly what we needed. If this thread's response and the PM's that Jim and I both get is any indication, we're on the right track. A lot of information outside of the normal specs is propritary for Hoosier, but I think the specs are dead on. Now, we need to see the results at the track. Indy, are we there yet?

By the way, based on these tires being built for best 1/4 performance, I would not be using them on the street. Maybe to go around the block, but that's about it. The softer the tire, the easier it finds the nails and screws.

As it was mentioned before let's hope that these tires willbe softer thatn the rest of the radials currently in the market. People are still getting wheel hop with the current radials but then again they can drive them easier on the street.

But from what I see most of us we want a dedicated drag tire that fits our wheels and brakes properly! Can't wait to see the results and of course the final price!

Indy, so am I to understand that this new tire will/should be the one of choice to replace both the Quick time pro 26" currently being popularly used and the MT bike slick?? Is this the aim of this tire, apart from it being a 17" and all.

OK, I'm about to get windy again, sorry in advance.
The MT bike slick shouldn't even be used on our cars based on safety issues, sidewalls, etc. I understand that it IS used, but not an option for many of us as well as it doesn't fit the stock wheel properly. The QTP is 26.1" tall and is great if you have 15" wheels and need a little more mph over the stock size of 25.2-25.3". Knowing that many Evo owners won't go to small brakes and 15's, we've narrowed the options down to 17's, since the 18's shouldn't be used for performance (read weight and sidewall) reasons. The remaining decent options are the BFG 225 and the Nitto555R's. I've used both, extensively. The BFG's have great compound and bite with very good tire patch for a 225. The issue is the sidewalls are not ideal for our cars at the dragstrip. We need some sidewall to work with the suspension. It also is lacking in the height when it comes to a modded Evo. We can easily run out of gear with a stock tire height (or shorter) such as the BFG. The Nitto has ideal dimensions, (25.7 tall, 8 " tread width and the sidewall is reasonable compared to everything else available.) Problem is we don't have much of an option to get heat into the tire on our AWD cars. The Nitto is a harder compound and doesn't have a lot of bite when you launch at 6000+. The best option is simply to get the tire softer to begin with. At present, a soft tire that fits the stock size wheel, but adds a little more 'dimensions' isn't available, until now. The QTP's aren't available in a 17. The Nittos are too hard. The BFGs aren't BEEFY and tall enough.

All of the best attributes are put into this new tire. Soft compound, little more tread width, little more height and a lot lighter than a snow or allweather tire in similar size. I have a set of 255 Dunlop M3's that have great compound, but way too heavy for drag racing. If I used the M3's, I lose all of the weight savings that the light wheels brought to the table, besides adding the weight to the circumference of the tire as opposed to being closer to center with stock wheels and tires. Best option is a new size, better compound and hopefully lighter weight than anything available. I'll say it again, I'm long winded but I prefer to give complete answers than partial responses leaving questions.
