I first mounted these on the stock wheels, I didn't like the way they looked so i got a thinner lighter wheel.

the style isn't bad but I don't care much for the chrome, powder coated black might work However, that's not the point of these wheels anyway, it's to use the slicks!

Guys just because quite a few cars running them haven't blow a tire and careened into a wall at a 140mph doesn't mean it's safe. First look how much these tires weigh compared to a similar car sized tire, they are not meant for these type of loads. I know there is a safety factor but do you know the factor is, you're just guessing.
I truly hope this doesn't start a trend of everyone running them because when someone's car gets totaled or worse, someone get's hurt, it won't be a good day.

So if they are rated at 500lbs each and during a hard launch you can have roughly 75% weight transfer or more. A full weight street evo at 3400lbs with driver will already have about 1500lbs on the rear tires, so that's 750lbs per tire roughly. On a launch that will probably go up to 1200-1300lbs per tire, that's almost 3 times the rated load!

I've talked to MT about this already. It's really not safe to run these on cars. I know this sport is inherently dangerous but why blatantly put yourself at risk like this?

I understand your theory but when was the last time someone ran 140mph at the 60ft.. if the tire comes apart on the lauch i would guess your not going to sustain much injury.. Just my opinion though..

I'm with Martin on this. If you can't afford to run normal 15" wheels and M/T car slicks, maybe you need to rethink your choice of hobby. I also think you will start seeing failures as more people start trying them out. Also curious about drivetrain failures as it looks like the sidewall is fairly narrow. What is the real cost savings anyway??? You need to buy the slicks and wheels right. So we are just talking about a mini brake kit??? Most people are using the factory dsm's which can't cost that much.

The reason most people go to Motorcycle slicks is not to save money but so they can run the stock brakes.. Its much nicer to slap on some stock wheels with MC slicks for a track day rather than swap out a wilwood small brake kit and 15" wheels when you want to go to the track.. Not everybody's car is an all out drag car.. a lot of guys daily drive their car, autocross their car and then hit the drag strip now and then..

I understand what you are getting at, but if it isn't an all out drag car why are they worrying about .1 or .2 at best on the 60' then. Leave it alone and be happy with 1.5-1.6 60's. I have turned many 1.5's on 18" Falken Azeni RT 615's. The logic for saving money to take a risk just doesn't make sense to me...

How much is a set of the dsm brakes that fit? What are we talking about saving? 800 for a set of four? Your going to buy new slicks and wheels anyways, so now it just comes down to the brakes. If the defense is they want to leave the brakes alone for daily use, then leave the tire/wheels alone too. Be happy with 1.5-1.6 60's. For the people who can't pull 1.5-1.6 60'son a normal street tire, they wont be able to pull 1.3-1.4 60's on slicks, so it is all relative. Bottom line is be safe and do it right.
