I saw your car at the shootout and then recently Mike@AWDMotorsports car and it brought back my initial thought of turning the turbo like that. Knowing I didn't have the patience to do it and that it was something I wanted to offer for sale I contacted Ron and asked if he'd help me with my idea. It was important that it was built so we could also fit an air cleaner in there too so it could be used on the street.
You and Mike were the first ones I had scene done and I liked them both. Before I saw them I had the idea to do it but lacked the talent to pull it off haha Thanks to Ron and some input from me we have something we can use and sell.
I'll tell you though. Tom's (9sec9's) car is running Ron's normal header and he has the half radiator on the passenger side, it left us enough room to fit a full 4" inlet on the turbo with an velocity stack on it positioned directly in the drivers side grille and it worked extremely good. His car made 727 whp today.

Your forward facing turbo kit is badass.. I wanted to do it forever but lacked the resources to do it.. Finally after hearing cwill talk about emery's car for months and months i had to find someone to do it.. If i had Ron close to me i could keep him busy all year round as much as i change setups.. LOL

I try not to bother Ron too much, he's generally too busy building standard parts for us. This is the first custom job I called him in on! haha Ron started out as a customer of our, turned into a friend, now is a supplier and an even better friend.
Emery, was this year at the shootout the first for you to run the forward facing turbo kit you had? I don't think I noticed it before and until I saw a photo shoot of your car somewhere I don't think I even realized you had it. It looked great.

Yeah, This year was the first for us on this setup and I must say it works very well! I'm glad to see you guys switch your car over and I'm sure there is 8's in your near future. As for us, We are currently working with Tim from Punishment Racing to produce our version of a forward facing kit. Our new kit will position the turbo in the same spot as our set up was this year but will have a few changes in the runners.
Anyhow, Congrats again!

DB, what was the idea behind designing headers in this position? Any technicality in it, if you don't mind sharing...
Though I am running your standard tubular 35R kit, this new design makes me curious if it gives turbo more air to suck in or spools turbo quicker....
& in a Country where temp. is over 100F 9 months a year, does this small radiator with half length a/c condenser going to work on this kind of setup?
Also, did you find any loss of spool in hta86 when compared to hta82?

The idea of the turbo being where it is was to get a good straight shot of clean, ambient tempurature air going to it. Our standard turbo kit works excellent, which is obvious by 9sec9's car making 40 more whp than mine has today! haha He is running a small radiator too but has his on the passenger side and comes out of our standard turbo kit with a long sweeping 90 degree 4" bend that has a velocity stack on it on the drivers side grille area.
The small radiator I feel will cool the car without problems even in 100 degree temps. I think though that if I had a car that had to operate in those conditions I'd go with the dual pass radiator we also offer, it's quite a bit more money though. As for the 1/2 sized a/c condensor, it is an idea that I am playing with incase there is enough interest in this kit for guys that want to keep the a/c. I don't know how it will work until we actually do it.
The forward facing kit I felt, when we did it, would be geared more towards someone taking their car to the next level of performance and would probably be willing to give up the a/c on it.
There are some cars I require a/c in and then there are others that for whatever reason I like to have the windows down on. The EVO happens to be a car I enjoy driving with the windows down. I know we all don't feel the same, maybe it's my throw back mentality to the cars of the '60's and 70's I use to be addicted to. haha

I'm the same way David, any opportunity to have the windows down I'll do it but it gets to 100* here in the summer and with the Memphis humidity it's difficult to breath without breaking a sweat. No AC is out of the question for me due to that and it being a daily driver in stock trim and often getting stuck in traffic (no breeze).
I figure the no ac option will be just fine for the northern guys and those who like the idea of dropping weight. I wonder if there's enough demand for an AC version.

Well, I have visited Ohio often enough to understand that that AC is optional during much of the year.
But here is the But Monkey - But, having been born and raised in Texas and being quite familiar with the fact that a 10mph wind on a 110F day feels like someone is following you around with a hair drier, I can't imagine driving anything but a classic air cooled VW without air conditioning. I don't think I could bring myself to yank the AC from my EVO9.

For you, they say "old is gold" haha!
This means I should stick to what I'm running now, as it's the best
My choice is with a/c. Only thing that's bothering me now is this new turbo...

Yes, its the OEM motor mount. Buschur doesnt think the side mounts are needed, and they only make the front and rears only....as the engine only rocks back and forth.

The turbos are for sale now. Just call the shop to place the order.
The passenger and drivers side mounts are stock. The rear engine mount is stock with our insert in it and the front mount is on our lightweight center member.

not sure if its been mentioned in this thread but how much later does the HTA86 spool than the 82? Can we get a dyno comparison, im interested to see the power/spool tradeoff if there is any..
this is from the other thread, i know this car is using different cams, FP5R if im not mistaken? It looks to be spooling quite a bit later than some of the recent HTA82 plots.
