Where to buy Rims in Markham
ok, this is really stressing me out. i need snow tires. i think i might have them picked out. now, the question is rims. i initially thought i'd just ride on steelies, but on second thought, they look too ghetto on a RR MR.
budget is tight so i thought, maybe i can use stock MR BBS and then switch it back for summer. the parts manager at mitsu dealership advised me that switching rims like that on the stock advans multiple times is not a good idea and might damage the tire after 2 years (4 switches)
so now what? do i buy cheapo rims for my winter tires or use BBS and buy nice rims for the stock advans? advans already seen 6 months of driving so buying expensive ($200+) rims for tires that will last maybe another 2 years seem wasteful. and when i do get new tires i want 255 or 265 so the expensive rims i buy for my stock 245 tires will be worthless
wut to do? ideally i just want to keep reusing the BBS for at least this winter and next summer. i'm looking at the hankook icebear w300 245/40/18 for my winter tire. switching rims likely to damage those too?
while i'm on the topic...if i switch out BBS rims to go on winter tires, what happens to the TPMS sensors? are they attached to the rims or the tire? dealer wants $250 to recalibrate (ridiculous). so if i leave tpms off for winter tires and just put up with the warning light, if i switch the BBS back to summer tires next year, would the tpms need recalibration?

I think the one added advantage to doing the tire rubber swap for snows is that you wont have to deal with the warning message for TPMS. the risk is getting some serious battle damage if you hit something with the side of the rims.
If you expect to drive alot in the winter I would get a second set of rims. if not and you have a beater or a second car, then you can tough it out with just rubber upgrade and keep the BBS's.
but with something like the primax tires, I think its better knowning you wont kill the BBS's . cause those are not cheap. :S

Have the same issue.... can't find any nice cheap rims for winter (btw, from what I understand, you can't put a steelie on the evo.. won't clear the calipers). I've already gone through one winter using my stock bbs and today I decided, fk it and just switched the rubber again and slapped my snows on the bbs. There is the issue of wrecking the rubber if you continually take them on and off the rims.. but the bigger issue imo is how the dealer fks the rim up bad when they are replacing the rubber.... lets just say that my stock bbs are now my official beater winter rims and i'll be looking for some new rims for the summer....... aargh....
anyone know of any good wheel shops in the gta?

Having the same headache. I was thinking about using the stock bbs rims as well. is the salty snow really going to kill the rims?

The rims should be of high enough grade metal to resist seasonal abuse. But the bigger worry is hitting something. With snow on the ground, its real easy to slide, real easy to mis judge wear the curb is. you just dont want to do it. OEM rims just arent cheap.
If you plan on light winter driving, using the EVO now and then, then i would suggest swapping the rubber.
if not, change the rims to something your not going to loose sleep over

your stock tires will only last you 2 seasons mine only lasted 20,000km I'm using my stocks for winter, if your budget is tight and you don't want to use your stock bbs then i suggest your check out tirerack or discount tire direct for some cheap rims since the dollar is good. if the dealer wants 250 to recalibrate the tpms they don't know what they are doing, that's a total rip off. most shops charge 30-60 bucks for recalibrate.

I used the stock bbs last winter... and the evo is my daily driver so i was driving through all the crap. rims made it through fine.. dirty, but fine....

i'm going to spend more time searching for winter rims...
decided to just use the bbs for this winter
