ABS conversion in Evo RS?
Does anyone know if swapping an Evo GSR ECU into an Evo RS would give the RS an anti-lock braking capabilities?
If the simple swapping would not do the job, would it be possible to convert a RS to have anti-lock capabilities?
If someone could answer this question, I'd appreciate it.

I didn't know the RS didn't have ABS but if it doesn't you would most likely need more than the ECU. You would probably need the entire solenoid assmebly as well as the abs brake lines in addition to whatever controls the ABS, whether be the ECU or some sort of ABS control module.

I wouldn't think so... you probably need $1000s in parts+labor.
why would you want to add it?

Question. Why exactly would you want to do this.

Well, here is my reasoning. ABS is a good safety feature to have, but to get it you have to pay more to get the GSR or the MR version. I was wondering if there is a cheap solution to getting the ABS that will save me money over getting the GSR/MR.
However, from the responses that I got ... I guess that was a dumb thought.

when you look at the braking distances for the MR vs the RS I don't think it is a dumb thought to want to have ABS in the RS...

ABS is crap! You would need everything abs related.. not just the ecu..

with a bunch of track days it would explain itself...
the short answer is that without ABS once you overload the tires and start to slide you are braking slower then with ABS. BUT if you're a good driver and can threshold brake (braking as hard as you can without locking up) then you're in better shape overall.
it's a lot like saying you want traction control because it stops the back from going into oversteer.

I understand what you mean and I'm sure you're better off without abs if you have excellent pedal modulation but I'm just wondering why it seems like braking distances suffer with abs (for example, the buschur time attack RS). Do you think its all driver?

Honestly I drive both all the time and I much prefer the brake feel to her RS to the GSR. I know the ABS car will likley keep you safer in a emergency but the fell of no ABS is great her car stops awesome.

in reality brake times don't suffer in a way that matters... sure, from 10mph to 0mph you can't beat ABS's ability... but from 100-20mph ABS is not going to stop you quicker.
