Atronics Myths

I have heard about cold starts and hot start issues with stand alones. Autronics seems to be one of the best and I was told with a good Autronics tuner that is not the case. Could someone confirm or add to this discussion.

You are right to say that there are issues with the standalones for the cold starts, but the hot starts are not an issue.

For the Autronic PnP's, after talking to Steve at Aussie Imports, I believe we have a solution in the making. We will be testing these fixes these 2 weeks on 4 Evos and I am pretty sure the problem will be taken care off. Hot starts are fine. I will keep you updated.

About AEM's EMS, we have come across that issue as well, and we will try and see if the same mod will fix it once we can figure out how to replicate that mod on the AEM boards. As we speak we have just finished the ignition table under boost for the S2000 and it seems to be running strong on our dyno. Funny how AEM themselves don't have any base ignition maps for forced induction S2K's. Our S2K with the AEM EMS has minor cold start cranking issues. Hot starts are fine.

Thanks for reading.

Don't forget your factory ECU is a "standalone" unit as well. The developers have spent a lot of time to get the most efficient for all/most environments.

Warm start issues are usually worked out early since you usually start your tuning at normal operating temperatures, based on coolant temp.

Cold start "issues" generally take longer to get sorted out since you have a short period of time to get the fuel and timing modifiers corrected be for the coolant come up to temp. Don't really think of it as an issue, but just something you need to work through.

With the cold "stumble" our cars have straight from the factory, I do not know that the Mitsubishi cold start program is great either, although I know that it has had a lot more R&D then what most tooners have the time or money to do.

I have zero issue with cold starts maybe its the good gas? right I wake to 40-50 degree weather the car is under a car port so its semi exposed. At work its outside and no problems there either. I know stand alone is the ultimate way I just have to factor dyno time tuner time and the actual product. Need to justify cost the jury is still out on this.

I know this is an old thread. But to back up what BLKEVO8 says. We have zero issues with cold starts. It's all in the tune. In fact, we had no issues with cold starting with the factory supplied tune. Chris Chow.

Agreed, If you cannot get it to work correctly there is 95% chance its in the tune. Very slim chance that any reputable standalone wouldn't be able to figure out cold-start issues, especially with all of the variables that stand alones let you change.

On another note, you have a SICK car chris, ive been a big fan ever since I saw the first dyno video. wow

Thanks for the props.
We want to go back and hit the dyno with a couple of people or sand bags loaded in the trunk

Alamo Autosports has been running Autronics on Evos for quite a while now without any starting issues.

Yea I bet shes got a lore more in her. Before I thought it was the turbo V6, the fact that its a 350(Right?) makes it much cooler.

BTW: If you dont mind answering. What turbos are you running and what boost levels do you push?
