pick-up errors

just wondering if anyone has had crank pickup errors running the autronic. my buddy (DEVO330) is running the autronic system in his car and lately has had crank pick-up errors running it. the actual codes it is throwing are 4:3 and 3:4 if i remember correctly. we already replaced the crank position sensor to no avail.

ironically every time i drive the car it works flawlessly, and every time he drives the car its so bad its barely drivable (stalling, studdering). any ideas? the shop that sold the autronics thought it could be crankwalk... (they actually built the motor too).

i've looked over the wiring and everything is normal. i know it references the cam position as well, so that sensor is next on my list... my only other idea was maybe the plug wires are going bad causing it to studder, then causing the ecu to throw the code.

to be honest and realistic, I think that something with engine is wrong. These errors are representing pickup errors, but if the engine is built by them, they should see what is wrong. Maybe you are not pushing the engine hard enough so it is not happening to you?

Just to say, I had one drag car which had really lousy crank sensor (on lousy and weak holder) and this was moving around a bit, but I never saw these errors. Ignition was walking for 3 to 5 degrees, but errors were never reported. Autronic has quite good error threshold. Check the engine first

Also the idea about bad wires is also worth checking. When engine overrevs or ecu loses power for a sec, it can throw these codes.

it seems to be either a cam or crank sensors .... not likely to be the moror . Autronic has a very good filter for errors .

If it is an SMC/D based board it may well get 34/43 errors even if there is nothing wrong with the sensors. If the engine rolls back off the starter you can get an extra cam or crank pulse and then the errors.

Turned out to be a loosely connected cam angle sensor. Everyone check yours. KevinD guessed it right..
