Why are you using the S-AFC?
I'm curious. Why are you using the S-AFC to tune an Evo? please vote in the poll and make a post to explain your reasons.
let me be clear, this is not an attack on S-afc users, I used one for a long time on my stealth and really liked it, but once I realized that by cheating the ecu on airflow was causing timing to drift out of tune I had to find another solution. I went to the greddy e-manage + e-01 and loved it. Now that I have an EVO I'm using ECUflash since it gives me full control over:
air/fuel
timing
2-step launch rpm
rev limit
boost cut defeat
and more
the best part is that it's free and there's free logging software. all you have to buy is the tactrix usb to odbII cable, no more tapping into the stock ecu wiring etc... and I can move it from car to car in seconds to help out friends. If you don't know how to tune it, there are plenty of people that can make a tune for your car and their is lots of support if you'd like to learn. If you already own a laptop, I think this is the way to go, hands down.
I'd like to hear your reasons for using the s-afc.. thanks

Mellon, I am not an expert by any means on current EVO-direct ECU tuning, so what I am going to say next I have learned from my tuner.
He has locked my timing, that way I can play with the S-AFC-II and the timing will stay the same and only the fuel ratio will change.
That can be done, and the days of timing drifing and the tunes going wild are a thing of the past.
I am, an AFC expert, however. So I continue to use it, but very limited. Jester has perfected my tune, and I only touch the AFC to fine tune the A/F's on rare occasions while using different mixes of fuels.

hmmm, the only way you could "lock the timing" would be block fill the timing map so that all load cells have the same timing value at a given rpm. With the AFC you are adjusting the maf signal, ecu uses the maf to calculate load so if you remove fuel you lower the load, if you add fuel you raise the load and hence you will drift from cell to cell and timing values will change unless adjacent cells have the same timing values.

I use dthe AFC until i got Ecuflash. AFC is easy to tune and you can make adjustments on the fly. But with Ecuflash I no longer see a reason to use the AFC. Mine sits in a box in the grage til I out it up for sale.

Never used a SAFC and glad I never did but some people were fairly lucky with the unit. Just by altering the MAF signal (what the safc actually does) the timing and AFR values were just right for one individual that after a tank of racegas he managed to run 12.00 flat in a 1/4 with just TBE and MBC.
But still it's just a one dimensional tuning device, you can do the exact same thing by changing the maf values with ecuflash. But I can see some use for using both the safc and ECUFLASH for toying around

mine just basic modification (hksrs kit, blitz nur spec, nology hotwires, apexi grounding) the rest is stock. i havent use boost controllers. some ppl prefers to use just afc neo to sort it out i mean for safety reason. but yesterday, i spoke to the japanese tuner, he said it's useless if u go for afcneo. so he suggested using hks evc with 1.2 set on low boost and 1.4 bar on high boost. what do u guys think?

But if I don't have the cable, nor a laptop, the ECUflash is a considerably more expensive method for tuning.
