base ignition timing?

The base timing with timing light on 4g63 is set at 5 degrees on a factory ecu. When using powerFC should timing light still read 5 degrees? Or should it match the 12 degrees the power FC gives at idle? I have tried both ways and the drivabilty feels flat at 5 degrees . Feels very lively at the 12. Makes more sense the power FC and timing light should give same reading. Amazing to me the FC manual is silent on this issue when its the single most important step before tuning a car.

Thats way too much timing for idle. You likely dont have that much. Are you quoting what is written in map for idle cells? or what you see on a timing light? or what your commander is telling you? all three can have different numbers.
