Tephra Map switch is a waste of time, E-85 sucks
I know this will get alot of attention because of the title. I figured I'd have fun with this.
I finally got my injectors installed and I have a tuner from another state helping me with getting the car dialed in....His DLL was off because I didn't know I had EVO 8 3rd and 4th gearing so the output was a little low.
Car is on crack now.....
So the reason for my title.......I don't know why I installed the map switch. I'm never going back to Pump gas. LOL. I tried even though I'm still getting the car dialed in...first chance I had to get E85 I was back at the pump (barely touched my 93 gas map).
E85 sucks because I don't want to go back to 93.
I can't believe people are afraid to go to E85 (who have it available). Y'all can take your meth. The car honestly scares the $#!t out of me. And I still haven't upgraded my turbo or intercooler.
Not even sure if I want to....(You know I will).

You'll be glad you have the switch when you go on a long drive and can't find an E85 pump :P

E85 is the ish. I hate it when the stations by me run out....it always seems to before a race weekend too.
I agree on getting the new turbo part, but I'm definitely going to get an IC. Maximize the efficiency of fuel and air.

Yeah thats why I named it that way. Having a little fun with it....it truly does suck. I'm never running pump gas unless I absolutely have to. I think I'm almost done tuning the E.....I have to tune the pump.....I really don't want to. LOL. Less boost, more money on gas (I know I know but I pay more per gallon, lol). Be interested to know what it puts down on the dyno but seat the pants......my car scares the $#!t out of me.

When im on pump gas it makes me want to cry, driving the car isn't much fun. My pump gas tune is really conservative cause i dont want to push the limits on piss ass 91. E85 though is pretty aggressive.

I bet going from 91 to E85 is like the yin and the yang. Nice title too. Got my attention.

I ran E85 for about 6 months on my evo and to be honest it was a PITA for me. Yes the car performed well but my mileage went down (as expected) and I had to go out of my way to stop at specific stations for it. I had run alky injection for about two years prior and had an aquamist HFS-1 in my car at the time. Fully tuned, I get nearly identical power out of the two. I can run just as much timing with E85 as I can with meth and vice versa.
The main advantage of mapswitching for me (and I think this is how it started to be honest) is with use with alky injection as a failsafe integration with the stock ECU:
Aquamist HFS-1, GM BCS, and Tephra v5: together at last!
I use it all the time and love it. If you think your car is fun now, upgrade to a BBK (or similar). Now, I get the level of power you're at now on pump gas and flip the alky on for the big power. I figure this way I'm not as hard on the car daily (as I would if I ran my high boost map) and I can still flip it on whenever I want to.
Anyways, I did use the mapswitch a few times when on E85 and it was well worth it. Sometimes you're in BFE or you pull up to a station that used to sell E85 and suddenly does not, that sucks bigtime.

I never quite understood the mentality of needing a switch for power control if i dont' want to beat on my car i just ease my right foot off the pedal .
Far as the station stopping yes that does suck big time! I hate filling up with 91 octane even though map switching is perfectly capable of handling the transition.

I have 91 piss octane & E-85 Tephra as well as C-16 & 91 Tephra mode.
91 is $3.25/gal in Socal, C-16 is $70+ per 5gal can & E-85 is $2.69 per gal.
E-85 FTW!

Glad to hear you're finally getting to enjoy your Ebo. It was one thing after the other for a little while there. I can't wait to get tuned for e85 myself. It's a bit of a drive for me to get e85 (15 min) but I'm gonna get a few 5 gallon tanks to keep at the house so I don't gotta go as often & can still run it regularly. Should work out ok since I DD my work truck so the Ebo will only get nights & weekends duty which will cut down on my trips to the e85 station. Glad to hear another great review of e85. Sounds like it will make the hastle worth while.

E85 is 5 minutes away from the house and on the way put of my area so its super conv.
Andy how's the car coming along. I know when I upgrade to a BBK, MAP, or FP (HTA Green or Red) it will be retarded, I couldn't imagine driving a 600+ HP car like alot of Evo owners have shot for seriously......What I have right now feels nuts.
