My motor on E85...

Pulled the head today...

This is my personal motor after approx 10k miles on E85, 62k on the motor:

She cleaned up well:

The reason why we pulled the head, pushing coolant on 3 and 4:

This is the same motor at approx 35k, 2years ago, before it saw any E85 at all, just 91 and 100oct:

Care to share any more details? E85 all year? Boost? Often tracked or just DD? Pistons look like they got attacked but a little hard to tell the condition before the E85 with these pics.

E85 for the last 9-10k miles, maybe 2 tanks of 91 in that whole time. All year long, from summer, to winter, to Tahoe in the snow and back again.

27 psi, 30 psi, 32 psi, you name it. Never tracked on E85, but tracked before on 100. I push the car every day, I have fun with it.

The pistons look great, are very clean, except for the carbon on the outer edges from before on 91. On 91 the pistons had carbon all over.

I wasn't expecting the pistons to look so good. I had a week or so where I had some audible det but my knock CEL light never came on and it never registered knock. Then I pulled the plugs and they looked like jewelry. I was expecting the pistons to look the same way.

It's led/leads a very hard life, it is the test mule for my tuning, I push it hard and put it away wet.

Thanks for that info!!! Very promising for those currently running E85 and for those thinking about switching but wondering if there are any ill effects!!

Motor looks squaky clean just like an alcohol burner should

Do you think the audible knock caused the gasket to leak?

Are you going to have the head decked or checked for straightness or put a new head gasket in?

Do let us know how it progresses and thanks for sharing the pics.

It didn't help I'm sure. It's been pushing coolant for over a year now. This should have been done a long time ago. I'm actually surprised it never got much worse as I drove it like normal (aka beat the hell out of it).

Head is getting checked and decked and rebuilt.

13% leak down in #3, compression is still great, amazingly.

The head on my car was recently pulled. You would be surprised the amount of carbon build-up from crappy 91. Switching to E-85 was a no brainer for me.
