Any way to troubleshoot AEM without sending it out?

Hey guys,

About a month ago my car stopped working, it cranks over but won't start...and I haven't been able to find what the problem is. My friend is a mechanic and has been looking at it for me when he has a little spare time, he's looked at it now about 2-3 times for around 20mins-1hr each time, and has tested multiple things.

He's thinking that my AEM could be bad. I tried hooking it up to the laptop and it's not being detected anymore...my question is, is there any way I can try to troubleshoot the AEM system or do any tests to it before I have to send it out to AEM for them to take a look at it?

I already sent my system out earlier this year and it came back with no problems, I don't want to send it out again and be without a running car for 2 weeks unless I'm close to 100% sure somethings wrong with the system itself.

Is there anything I can do to find out if the problem is definitely the AEM?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Does it not even detect or do you get any errors?

I have a same problem 2 months ago on one of my costumer car (2JZ engine) after a stupid mechanic played with his car ... He came to me and I plugged my lab top and tried to connect to the EMS but no used, so I called AEM Support and asked me to remove the EMS from the car and connect to 12v power and ground and try to connect it to the lap tob. I did that and it does connect to the lab top . Then after that I asked the car owner to replace the crank and cam sensors ... then problem was solved .

If you can get it to connect just to view the sensor signals and look for the "Stat Sync" column, when you crank the car the stat synch should go from "OFF" to "ON" if it doesnt the EMS isnt getting a signal from the cam and/or crank sensor.

If your unit is offline:

1) Check voltage on ecu
2) Check all fuses, realays etc...
3) Check serial cable
4) Try another PC

if everything ok, just the ecu does not communicate or work with engine.... put it out

I also forgot to mention...you know when you turn the key and all the lights on the dash go on for a couple seconds, including the service engine light? All my lights turn on except for the service engine light, it used to before, any ideas what could be causing that?

If your getting this is probably a bad eprom.

I sent mine to AEM to get fixed. It was $50 which was a sweet deal cause its $50 to get it looked at it and they gave me a new eprom and everything for free.

They will take care of you.
