So I got into my car the other day, and the ***** greeted me with a nice "KEY BATTERY LOW" message. Not wanting to get stranded because of a dead fob battery, I did some poking around to see what needed to be done. I didn't see anything related, so here's a quick write-up for you fellas (Yeah. I only said fellas, we all know girls don't exist on the internet).

What you need:

• 1 - Set of hands (Ten fingers)
• 1 - Flat head screwdriver
• 1 - Replacement CR2032 battery (This can be found for $2.25 on Amazon)
• 1 - 2 minutes of spare time

What you need to do:

1. Remove the emergency key.
2. Look at the BOTTOM of the key, there should be a little slit here. Use the flat head screwdriver and pop open the back cover.
3. Notice the shiny battery being held down by two tabs. Directly on the other side of the tabs, there should be a "slot" where you can gently pry out the battery with same screwdriver.
4. Remove new battery from packaging.
5. Slide new battery in, it might take some finessing.
6. Replace back cover and emergency key.
7. Pat yourself on the back for not running to the dealer for such a simple (and cheap) task.
8. Get yourself a beer and try to convince your significant other to have some sexy time.

Nice write-up! Some tips (as I have done a few of these). Be EXTRA gentle. The plastic is soft and scratches easily. Put a piece of masking tape on the screwdriver to avoid scratches.

Also, if you're gonna replace one, replace the other. These things are always transmitting. Even if you don't use the spare.

For sure. At 2.xx per battery, you'd might as well replace both. You'll ensure that they'll start to die around the same time again to boot.

If I'm remembering correctly, mine did this too. After awhile it'll come back on, and complain every time you start your car up.

That plastic is really soft! I even triple masked the tiny screwdriver! Had to twist the screwdriver in the tab to get it to open, and that put a little dent in it. The rest was easy. Had to push REALLY hard to get it to close afterwards. Cheers.
