Whine on cold starts
Sometimes I hear a high pitched whine from the engine bay right after I start my car in the mornings. Whine goes away after 5-10 seconds from start. I think it comes from transmission. What it could be? Car shifts perfectly. Changed trans oil a couple of weeks ago, problem stays...

Mine has gotten louder here leately too since it has gotten colder. Exactly what you're describing I have a video here. It's very faint, but I can make one now where it's much louder due to colder weather. Read a lot of threads with no definite answers.

Whine is rpm dependant. If I press gap pedal, whine changes tone with rpms. Goes away completely after 10-15 seconds from start.

Yeah exact same thing mine does. I've read a lot of threads on this and there is no clear answer. Some say serp belt may need replacing and then you have a lot of ppl who say it's perfectly "normal" lol maybe someone with some knowledge will throw in there .02

I have it sometimes as well, only when it's very cold, had it every winter, only on cold starts,
other then it being annoying for the 5-8 seconds it last i don't think it's too concerning.

Mine does this as well, however it only does it when its below 0 degrees.
Everyone I've talked to locally seems to think its normal, I haven't heard any adverse affects from it, so I guess it's just another thing to get used to

Mine does this and so did my DSM. I figure its pretty normal because its soo cold out. Im easy on it and dont build any boost until its warmed up and the noise goes away within a couple of minutes of driving.

My car does this obnoxious noise as well (when its very cold out). I start it up and it does the noise for a few minutes usually. After It warms up a bit it goes away. No idea what it is!

Is it a loud clattering or ticking noise? Maybe you could describe the noise to help us identify it better. Its probably lifter tick that you are describing. What weight oil do you use in the winter? Normally its recommended to go with a little lighter weight oil in teh cold winter.

I had pretty much the same thing happen to my car. But it didn't go away within 5-10 seconds, the car would need at least 3 temp bars before the sound went away. Only happened a few times before my first oil change/fluid inspection(3.5k mi), then never came back. I forgot to ask the tech if they noticed anything odd on the first inspection. I talked to him after the second inspection (7k mi) and said everything looked good.
I don't think my issue was temperature based. The coldest it gets in my area is the mid 40's in the winter (good old socal weather).
I have heard rumors of the 2010 model years having overfilled transfer cases from the factory. I talked to another 2010 owner that had his transfer case replaced at 8k miles under warranty.

On very cold days (below zero) my X does this as well, it only last a few seconds to a minute and goes away.
It's normal and will not be an issue if you let the car warm up for a bit.
