Highest HP 4g63 engine (from 2007)
Hi to all the evo community.
I didn’t want to write anything these years to the forum as matter horsepower etc., but recently I saw some videos posted mostly on youtube about the worlds highest hp record on evo8 (4g63).
That makes me writing this post. Before 1 year that i had see same posts and videos i spoke to AMS (Mr Eric) company to inform then about our horsepower records, the guys there didn’t know our existence and they told me that they don’t care about horsepower but only for time slips.
That answer seems to me ok and i understood and i didn’t want to go further and writing post here then. But i show that this keeps going on and on and i chagrined.
So let’s introduce my self, i am Spyros Panopoulos, owner of Extreme Tuners in Greece, and tuner/builder of the most powerful 4g63 engine ever built. Our company specialized building-improve race engines and custom high-performance turbochargers and spare parts for our engines. We design our custom camshafts profiles, rods, pistons and valvetrain.
From 2001 we have tune - built and support over 140 race cars from circuit races, rally, drag racing etc. and over 15 race bikes. We have made over 1000 dyno pulls last 5 years.
As far as i know we own the world record for these 4 cylinder engines:
2006 - N/A ford cosworth 4cylinder 16v engine 119cui: 416hp -11900rpms
2006 – Mitsubishi Evo 8 4g63 4cylinder 16v Turbo engine: 1056hp – 45.5psi (custom triple ball bearing 71mm turbo 92lbs/min)
2006 - Ford cosworth 4cylinder 16v Turbo engine 120cui: 1188hp 51.5psi (custom ball bearing 78mm turbo 102lbs/min)
2007 - Ford cosworth 4cylinder 16v Turbo engine 120cui: 1280hp 47psi (custom triple ball bearing 80mm turbo 119lbs/min)
2007 – Mitsubishi Evo 8 4g63 4cylinder 16v Turbo engine: 1416hp – 57psi (custom quad ball bearing 82mm turbo 132lbs/min)
2008 - Ford cosworth 4cylinder 16v Turbo engine 120cui methanol setup: we try to dyno it to our dynapack as we exceed its limit power from 44psi and above, running now 69psi (custom quad ball bearing 85mm turbo 141lbs/min) (we show at 35.2psi – 1266hp)
2008 - Mitsubishi Evo 8 4g63 4cylinder 16v Turbo engine methanol setup: we try to dyno it to our dynapack as we exceed its limit power from 47psi and above (custom quad ball bearing 87mm turbo 158lbs/min) (we show at 30psi 1031hp and 36.75psi – 1234hp) the customer with 35psi make one pass with 2820lbs weight (with the driver), 1.78 at 60feet, 9.38secs ¼ with 162mph.
2009 - we move to new facilities with upgraded dynapack dyno for 2600hp capabilities.
In less than a month i will have the new dynapack so as to see our above 4 cylinder engines at full boost what to do.
Detailed information for the dyno pull 4g63:
We own the world record from this engine from 9/10/2007, we produce from our Evo8 1416hp at 57psi with VP racing fuel and measure it with 5th gear in a Dynapack Dynamometer, ambient temperature was 102f and humidity 67%.
We have work to every dyno that there is and we finalize to dynapack.
We use dynapack system from 2003 because have the best repeatability for the proper and exact tuning, the losses to a 4wd is from ~19-23% depends from: mechanic parts and frictions, lubrication and general a big complex that i can explain to another post if u would like.
We don’t care about wheel horsepower or time slips or ¼ passes as we develop engines and turbo compressor maps that are all rated-measured to flow characteristics (lbs/min or kgr). I can tell u for sure that i have test any usual turbo that exist and according to its compressor map vs temperature and pressure ratios the horsepower at the crank that the graph at dynapack and the losses to a 4wd car that i have calculate are very close to precise. Compressors map thermal-flow ability is the only way to calculate the losses to a chassis dyno from the wheels to the engine graph to a certain flow engine. No matter Vol. Efficiency or Mech. Efficiency or Fuel Conv.Efficiency to an engine are more precise to calculate the engine horsepower to a chassis dyno. No frictional power to cost down or brake power or pumping power can calculate better the engine performance. The gears and shafts and difs at full boost have completely different force power each other so different friction and temperature than letting the car cost down calculating the losses. I can write a lot for this matter but i missing the point to this post.

You guys are obviously a cool shop! Post some pics and vids and that help us see what you guys do. But I will tell you, most people on this forum regard people who brag about dyno world records to be pretty lame (dumb).
If you made 1500 hp in a 4G63, the car was obviously for drag racing, so what time did it run? This will help us establish what hp on your dyno = what ET at 1/4 mile.

Please read carefully what i write to not be any miss understood.
I didn’t say that its the quickest evo i say is the most powerful 4g63 engine.
My company’s job is to built and tune race engines and turbos.
From the ¼ time u can’t judge an engine. Quarter mile passes needs a complex of: Weight to horsepower ratio, traction, Gearbox shift time, coupling, ratios, Drag Coefficient, front area, driving style, practice, and weather.
We care only for engine power.
The customer with 35psi make one test pass with 2820lbs total weight (with the driver) (the drivers window forgotten open, its important) with 1.78 at 60feet, 9.38secs ¼ with 162mph. terrible gear changes no flat shift and no traction as u can see. But i don’t care about time as i say, as we don’t have race tracks for drag racing here with traction, they place the glue one day before and only for first 100feet distance maximum.
