Key out of ignition - engine still running?

So this is a new one I haven't seen before. Came home today and when I went to turn off the car and take the key out, the key was in my hands, I was outside of the car, and the engine was still running.

I got back in the car, put the key back in, started and stopped the engine again and it shut itself off that time.

Anything to be concerned about? Anyone else see anything similar?

I have an 2010 SE with about 7k miles.

I don't mean to ask a stupid question... but is it the engine or the FANS that are still running?

Does it cut off after a couple of minutes? if so its ur built in turbo timer, my ralliart before i upgraded the fmic used to heat soak after short drives triggering the onboard turbo timer.

Yeah must of just been the turbo timer. It sounded way more 'thunderous' then just fans but I just cleaned out the garage so that might be why.

The ralliart and evo x do not have any built in turbo timers that im aware of? At 7k miles this is probably your first summer. Its just your fan running. It'll do that when your car is really hot or when you have the ac on. The fan is godawefully loud.

I've been encountering this on a routine basis on my '10 SE w/ 9kmi. After the key is turned to the off position, the engine continues to run for about 5sec or so. Engine sounds normal during this time. (Not like an old diesiling chevys) It doesn't seem to matter how warm/cold the engine is either. I just figured it was some sort of OEM turbo "timer". Honestly, it hasn't really concerned me enough to verify whether this is normal behavior or not. But it sounds like I'm not the only one noticing it.

All Evo's with the SST run for a bit after the key is turned off to make sure the transmission is aligned correctly when the car is started again. Read the manual. It discusses this.

My delearship had warned me about this issue as well. That after the car has been shut off, the turbo timer or something will still run for a bit.

I put it in bold this time because it seems we have a reading problem.

Yes, some people on here can't read, and thanks for posting that. I never knew that about the SST's. But one poster in this thread has a GSR, in his case it is just the fans staying on for a little while, not the engine.

There is no turbo timer. If the engine is too hot after hard driving in hot weather, it cuts the fans on for a minute.
