Can somebody tell me the difference between a cat-back, turbo-back exhaust? and which is better for EVO.

turboback is the way man mild tune go with a 2.75 piping or if youre gonna go all out go 3inches all the way.also get it tune to get the best out of it.

To make matters more confusing, we offer two full exhausts-- both of which can be referred to as turbo-backs. One bolts all the way up to the turbo. It can rightfully be called a "turbo-back." The other bolts up to the 02 sensor housing just downstream of the turbo. The latter should technically be called a "dump-back" or "downpipe-back" or "O2 sensor housing-back". Make sense?

so exhaust like the Tanabe or Fujitsubo super Ti should be a cat back exhaust.

btw, what are the two exhausts you described in your post?

Yes, if they bolt up to the factory cat, they are cat-backs. The various full exhaust options can bee seen/read about at

i personally think you should stay with catback, highflow cat and a DP.... you loose a marginal power but u can pass emissions

Just to clarify a little further:

A turboback exhaust system is everything from the turbo all the way to the exhaust tip out the back. This is composed of three main components:
1) downpipe
2) catalytic converter or cat delete pipe (aka test pipe)
3) catback (which also includes muffler and exhaust tip)

A catback exhaust usually consists of two pieces, a long straight pipe that connect to the muffler/exhaust tip.

The whole reason to change out exhaust parts in the first place are for less flow restriction, both in the size of the opening and the straighter piping.

With this said, changing a turboback will give you more gains than a catback. Thus why buying a catback is much cheaper than buying a turboback because it's basically 1 component vs buying 3 components.
