Noise coming from under car when going over bumps

Alright so this has been going on for a while, but I have been tied up in my Galant too much to look in to it. Whenever I go over a bump, it makes a weird kinda bumping noise like something is loose under the car. It sounds like it is directly under the rear of the motor/firewall area, and it is quite audible. The car also jerks to one side once in a while, when I hit bumps, I do not know if that has anything to do with it. I also just had the car aligned and the inner tie rod ends done and the car had the noise before and still has it. Lets hear your ideas guys, thanks!

Maybe you have a cat or a small child stuck under your car.

Anyways my guess would be the tranny mount that connects right where you state the noise is coming from, I guess if it was REALLY bad its possible the tranny could be moving enough to bind up the half shaft causing the jerk.

I did not ask if they inspected anything. I will check the tranny mount and see what it looks like. Hopefully I will get some time in the next week or so to jack it up and make sure that cat I ran over isn't still stuck up there. Hopefully it didn't melt to my other cat. meow.

Another possibility is the sway bar linkages becoming loose due to wear. A friend's lancer had that problem.

Can you try going over the bump with brakes applied and then again not applied? Mine has done this for years, but only if I hit the bump with no brakes applied. I'd think that would make it easy to figure out, but I've searched, tugged, tightened, pulled and can't find anything loose at all, but it keeps making a sort of metal rattle sound.
