where do you guys get plasti-dip from. i painted my front chrome ring but that didnt last to long so now i am going to try and plasti-dip it. any help would be great thanks

Any major hardware store should have it, and even Walmart has it sometimes I've seen. Normally it is in the same area with the spray paint. =)

thanks for the help. how is everyone elses holding up who has used plasti-dip? i live in wi and we have a ton of salt on the roads around here and i go to the car wash at least three times a weeks so that why i think the paint started to come off.

I plasti-dipped my chrome ring / window trim last spring(?). Still perfect. No peeling or chipping at all. Quality stuff.

when painting the chrome nose ring. is everyone scuffing it before spraying with plasti-dip? or just simply cleaning/degreasing?

I just cleaned/degreased mine. Did not do any scuffing at all.

I've been through automatic car washes a bunch of times this winter too, and the plasti-dip is still holding up great.

I'm in WI as well and did mine way back in July. Mine is holding up well, except for a couple rock chips that exposed the chrome underneath. I'll do a spring-time touch up.

I'd definitely recommend against going to an automatic car wash if you can avoid it. I wash mine in a self-serve wash, taking care to avoid directly spraying the plasti-dip areas. The first time I washed my car after plasti-dip, I almost peeled it off my window trim. Luckily I was able to press it back down and everything was fine when it dried.

I did it on my Audi and it held up flawlessly. One guy used it to paint his wheels flat black and, pretty surprisingly, it's help up in Minnesota winters, track days, etc. Pretty amazing product.

I just bought some plasti dip today from home depot. pretty cheap. I'm planning on spraying my stock rims with them. Just thought I'd do something different on my car. this will only be permanent though until i get some actual rims. lol

a buddy of mine went all out with plastidip and then after put one layer of other paint on it. the plastidip should act as a buffer between the perm paint and your rim alloy.

it looked good on my friends rid. gonna snap a pic if i see him again soon

^Someone did that with their chrome front ring on here. Can't remember who...had an AS RA though.

Now that you mention it, I might try doing that to my stock wheels this spring. Lay down some plasti-dip underneath the gunmetal paint. You think primer would still be needed on top of the plasti-dip? It's pretty coarse already, and I'd assume that paint would stick OK to it...
