Oil Change information/discussion

I don't think a step by step "How To" is really necessary, as changing your oil is pretty straight forward and no different than any other car. Here's some information that could be useful though:

-The drain plug is towards the back of the motor on the passenger side and the filter is towards the front in the middle.
-The replacement filter is part #MZ690072.
-The owners manual calls for 5w-20 oil. I used Mobil1.
-You'll need a 11/16" socket for the drain plug and a size "G" (I think...whatever the next size up from F is) oil filter wrench. There isn't enough room for a "strap" type wrench.
-I refilled with approx. 4 1/2 quarts of oil. Obviously double check on the dipstick.
-To reset the periodic inspection warning, turn the car off, hold the info button on the gauge cluster until the icon flashes then press once more.

The dealer wanted $65 for a synthetic oil change. It cost me $30.

Hopefully some of you will find this helpful and save some money. Please add any info and correct me if I'm wrong.

Jeeezzz, $60 for an oil change on a 4 cylinder 2.0 liter engine? I guess my dealership (Bell Mitsu) is not that greedy afterall, costs me $23 for an oil change on a Lancer, it's not even worth my hassle of replacing it on my own.

I just got mine changed to day at 3000km. I bought my Mobil 1 for $38 and the oil change in total filter and labour and gasket was 2.52 CAD I was looking for the K&N but they said it was not at the closest store to me and I am not travelling so far.

Thanks for the info!

Has anyone used the K&N HP-1010 filter before? I just noticed that its compatible with our 08's. Looks pretty niffty with the nut at the top!

$60 for synthetic.

$23 for dino oil.

I'm interested if they use Synth right off the bat? or do we have to wait the usualy couple oil changes to switch over to synth for break in periods

Im with Rabid, our engines dont need synthetic oils yet... we should stick with the factory settings, and maybe consider switching it after a couple of changes.

but thats just me...

they mus tbe using something...whether it be a full synthetic or a synthetic blend. According to the car and the manual the first scheduled maintenance is not until 7500 miles. Any real oil would break down before that period of time expired.

Well, my first oil change was synthetic, so I'll be sure to post if my motor blows or something. Just finished a nearly-2k road trip and the car is running fine...

Installed mine a week ago (just before previously-mentioned road trip). I've been using K&N since they first started making oil filters. I'm happy with them. And they can supposedly last 12k, so that's great.
