They look ok, but that's a job any local shop can do for around 700 bucks... if that setup comes to be more than that, i dont see why going their route; plus there what, in japan right now? imagine shipping charges

id rather spend a little more on a quality exhaust by a reputable company rather than something by a local exhaust place who might have no idea about the car etc..

I've never heard of kakimoto before, I don't know if I'd call them reputable ala Magnaflow, Greddy, etc.

you're probably not much into jdm products because if you were you'd probably heard of kakimoto.. guess its personal preference because a lot of people i know of (im in aus) dont find magnaflow as a quality product so yehh..

I, too, would prefer going with a local shop IF they had experience working with that particular make or model of car. Otherwise, who knows. And most local shops will not make their own mufflers, so you are going to end up with what is most commonly sold in your area. In the United States (maybe North America), that will probably be MagnaFlow. Elsewhere: who knows?

Kakitomo make awesome parts. To even attempt to compare it to magnaflow is a joke. In Aus you use magnaflow cause you want something loud and can't afford a decent setup.

I wasn't attempting to compare the two; I am just stating what would commonly be used. I, personally, don't have any experience with Kakitomo, and cannot comment on their quality. The main appeal with Magnaflow (as even you have stated) is its price. Does cheaper always mean a lower build quality? No, not necessarily. Does more expensive always mean a higher build quality? Again, not necessarily. Anyway, now you're causing me to rant:

I highly doubt that you, or 99% of the people who post on these boards, have extensive experience working with either of these brands (not to mention the dozens of other manufacturers). At best, you have owned a few exhaust systems and have some personal experience with Kakitomo. At worst, you are a fanboy.

Either way, what I care about are objective numbers. In terms of exhaust, that breaks down to dB rating, price and power. Sound type is an aesthetic choice that I am not interested in. Branding and naming usually just ends up being something to brag about; again, I'm not interested. Build quality is something I am interested in, but it is more difficult to quantify. Every manufacturer has a percentage of part failures and flawed parts that make it through QC. If you have a breakdown of these numbers and can provide a side-by-side comparison of Kakitomo and Magnaflow, please, do share. In fact, that goes for all of the quantifiable numbers:

Kakitomo:

dB:
Price:
Power*:

Magnaflow:

dB:
Price:
Power*:

*These numbers should be pre-tuning and post-tuning on the same vehicle and on the same dyno in as close to the same conditions as possible. They should also be compared to stock runs by the same vehicle.

Once you can get me those numbers, I am more than willing to agree with your OPINION that Kakitomo is superior to Magnaflow. Right now, I have no opinion of my own on the matter.
