Question Removal of SSL sub and/or amp?

Let me preface that I know next to nothing about stereo systems and the associated electronics. That being said, I'd really like for my SSL to lose some weight and I figured the SSL sub/amp would be a good place to start.

Could anybody give me some tips on the removal of the components? Is it as simple as unplugging the sub and yanking it out, or is there more I have to do to avoid electrical/audio problems. What about the amp?

Obviously my overall sound quality won't be as good, but I assume it will still be adequate...right?

Thanks in advance
