Unhappy Clicking noise from gear shifter when brake pressed

Hello everyone,

Just noticed the problem tonight. When I shift to PARK, and the e-brake is either engaged or not, I hear and feel a palpable *CLICK* where the gear shifter is when I press on the brakes.

Brake, brake = click, click...

What could it be?? Has anyone had this happen?

Try shifting out of park with out pressing on the brake.

If it's what I'm thinking, it is just you brakes releasing the lock in the shifter that prevents you from putting your car into gear without having foot on the brake.

Ah yes, it is the lock...I can't shift the gear without having to press on my brakes. But is that sound normal?? I really havent noticed it, I've had the car 1.25yrs.

Thanks for the replies

I had the same thing happen to me. I've had the car about a year and it just recently started making the click. I have noticed that it doesn't do it 100% of the time, but almost. It doesn't really bother me -- as long as the damn thing doesn't break...

Yeah, it's been happening on my for about a year and there haven't been any problems. When I checked with the dealership they assured me that it was the brake releasing the lock on the transmission.
