Squeaking, cricket like noise

Hey guys.

My car has developed a wierd noise from the engine bay, specifically the belts near the cam gears. It sounds squeaky at idle and almsot like a cricket. I can tell it is coming from the belts in the car, but i dont know what they do. Im bone stock so if anyone could help that would be great. (Car drives fine).

Me and my friend's EVO develop this same noise. I tried to put some silicone on the belt without success. I guess that this is due to belt adjustment.

BTW, this noise is louder with cold engine, and with A/C off. Ah, could be some dirt because our Evos have a lot of space for incoming air to the engine bay and with this air comes dirt.

Someone solved this problem?

There was a post I created for Ralliart noises. I also get that sort of weird sound too.

BUMP for "I have the same issue"! I have 5500 on my stock MR and have just started hearing idler noise or some other type of pully sound. It's a sound like bearings are just starting to go bad, it's not loud but I'm just wondering if some one has dealt with this issue and has some words of advise. Thanks

I have the same issue too. It started right after I installed BR stage 2. In my case, I suspect its caused by the K&N breather but its hard to tell.

I also had this faint "whirling" squeaking sound coming from the engine bay on the passenger side. Drove me nuts for weeks!!
Anyways, I replaced the accessory drive belt with a Goodyear 'gatorback' poly-v belt.
It has this cross-serated design ribs on the belt. Suppose to make it "the quiet belt".
Once I put the new belt on the sqeaking dissappeared!! Not saying this will fix your sqeak, but it fixed mine. After 500 miles and still no sqeak.

I ahve the same thing with my evo, although it starts when the water temp starts the climb. From a dead cold start it'll be quite faint, but when the engine warms up it'll start and it gets loud enough to hear when im sitting in the driver's seat at idle. This happened when my car was stocka round 10,000 miles. It sort of got louder as time passed i guess. Now i'm at 27,200 miles and about to get new belts. If it is the belt I'll post an update.
