Dealer says Exhaust Manifold is cracked....

BAH!!! so they said it'll cost me $1700+ tax including labor to fix it!!

my mechanic said the part cost a lot and the time it takes to install etc.. but he said he would look at it first to see if the dealership was trying to get more $$ out of me..

i posted in the RA Engine noise thread about a sound i was hearing.. it sounds like a MACK TRUCK on a cold start...which is why we brought it in.. the sound goes away after a while.. but no matter how warm the car is the initialy start up noise is sounds like that mack truck before it settles down..

here is a video of it..doesn't do it justice..

are these manifolds that poorly designed that it cracks after 3 years? my wife drives this car and it's only 3 years old!

Is it 100% stock? I would assume this would be covered under powertrain.
PS: Markham Mitsubishi are pretty much crooks - avoid if u can

^^^this ...

if it's still 100% stock pull the warranty coverage documentation out on their asses, or find a different dealer for the warranty work...

Also, it's possible that one or more of the exhaust manifold bolts are loose... or maybe a seal between the down pipe and turbo.. or maybe loose bolts in the down pipe...

there's a lot of things that cause the exhaust to sound like that, but almost all of them are exhaust related...

How many kms on the vehicle?? What did they say... exhaust related components are not covered under warranty?? How is that not covered?? I would contact Mitsu asap, let them know your situation and that you went to 2 different dealers and they would not replace under warranty. Let them know how unsatisfied you are ect... Do you have the work order from the mitsu dealers??

Contact Mitsubishi Canada head office... I would be willing to bet (depending on how you approach them with this matter) that they will goodwill the manifold for you

warranty coverage information should have come with the documentation that you ~should have~ received when you purchased the vehicle...

However, I Googled it for you ...

http://www.mitsubishi-motors.ca/en/warranty/5-3-5/

Mind u, goodwill is only given for special situation. For example, if you've been loyal to your dealership which means, having them to rip u off for all the preventive maintenance, then most likely it will be under goodwill. However, if you do the opposite like me, don't ever think about goodwill!

Wouldn't the exhaust manifold be covered under the government mandated 100k mile emissions warranty?

It technically should. This crack is allowing for un"filtered"(via cat.) to enter the atmosphere.

I have the warranty booklet for my model year in PDF format.

Go to the following link and request one for your car:

Well said!

It also helps to note when they don't get service done in the time allotted, but still respond positively to their surveys. They should owe you something for that.
