Continental Extreme Contact DWS vs. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus

Looking to get rid of the summer shoes and put on some all seasons. First, 225/45R18's are gonna fit in place of the standard 215/45R18's right?

Kind of split on which one to get. I go snowboarding a lot but around here, the winters are mostly from 20-40 degrees on roads that are plowed pretty quick. Might get 1-2 storms a year with some slush left over but otherwise cold dry ground. Most of my miles are highway going upstate with maybe some snowy back country roads.

The DWS's supposed to be better in snow but no reviews on snow so far. A/S+'s have been out for a while and are supposed to be "ok" on the cold stuff and incredible in the dry and wet but they're about $45 more each (after discount).

According to tirerack, the 225s fit the stock rim, and I don't see why they wouldn't. On an aside, though, if you are buying these for snow, wouldn't you rather keep 215s?

They don't have a lot of options for 215's though. The only good tire in 215 I think is the good year eagle gt and I think these 2 are much better...

i have the michelin A/S tire......

it is a square , ugly tire...........but i like it...i think it suits the R/A well !

it IS a good tire , also pretty "quiet" on the highway.

Hmm, that is true. I didn't see a lot of options in the 215 category.

Mitsubishi USA has approved this application asince I have spoken in great length with their warranty division.

I have endorced this exact tire as a official replacement to the Dunlop SP5000M which comes on Canadian RalliArts.

2 Dealerships in the Toronto Area are stocking it. 225 / 45 / 18 is not an issue since it does not thru the ratio numbers off. Actually your likely to gain fuel economy due to its reduced weight. Not sure about the Yokohama's thou.

After driving through only one snowfall with those SP5000M's, I am of the mind that nobody should spend a single cent with Dunlop ever again. Those tires are accidents waiting to happen and they're not even that great on dry pavement (and I have less than 7000kms on them).

I changed over to some Nokian WR G2's (in 225/45R18) and the dry performance is better, I get better fuel economy, the ride is slightly less jarring and even cornering feels better...plus I don't have to worry about snow or ice.

So anyone out there in Canadia () that is still rolling on those crappy Dunlops, get rid of them and have them burned or something so no one ever has to use those again!

I haven't even gotten my car yet, but I've got Blizzak LM22's waiting for the stock wheels and 18" BBS RS-GT's with Dunlop SP Sport Maxx waiting for summer already.

Eager beaver in Canada here.

I just read that review at tirerack. The continental beat blizzak's new LM 60's in just about every test. It looks like the tire to buy for winter.

Where is this review for the DWS on snow? I couldn't find it on the tirerack site.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=124 It's the best out of all of the A/S tires tested.

Though I don't see DWS vs Blizzak? And I don't believe that an A/S tire can beat a snow tire - even a performance snow tire - on snow/ice.

I think JohnDoe1984 is confused by this review(http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=122), which had the Continental ExtremeWinterContact (a dedicated winter tire) vs the Xi2 and LM60.

Yep, you're right.

I didn't know they make "Extreme Contact" and "ExtremeWinter Contact"... Still Continental does seems to make a surprisingly good tire, A/S or winter.

Continental's product names are some of the worst in the market... too confusing! What's the difference between a ContiSportContact (sounds like "constipated" to me) and a ContiExtremeContact, for example. Not clearly understandable.

Plus they're a bear to type and to shorten to passable acronym's. -_-;;

bad names a side, I think this will be the best tire for the Lancer and RalliArt. and I think for the street as a none track tire, even for the EVO X.

2 dealerships in Toronto have started official replacing the Dunlop SP5000's
