There's different modes of manually shifting? I didn't even know that... Maybe I didn't switch something that I should've and it was still in Normal Manual instead of S-Sport Manual. But I remember switching it to S-Sport for sure. In all the other cars I've driven (Mini, Acura, Porsche, BMW, etc etc) just hitting the paddles put it in the only manual mode they have, which is complete and total manual control. I'm gonna have to drive my girlfriend's Mini again to a dealership and then drive the RA or MR again to do a closer comparison.

0 wow that doesn't look right. That means the car was never tested but oh well.
Yea for the RA there are 2 modes Normal and Sport but the MR its 3, Normal, Sport and S-Sport. Hitting the paddles in the RA or MR puts u into manual mode if ur in D, which gives u control but when u come to a complete stop it reverts back to automatic. If u want full control u have to move the lever over to the +/- gate.

Right, just like other manu-matic cars (except those that never really give you full control... I hate that), but I wasn't aware that the transmission performed differently in manual mode based on which of the 3 modes the car was in, I thought those were only for automatic. I was in S-Sport (almost called it S# there, haha) so that wasn't what caused this. I'm just saying, that is pretty cool.

LOL after a week of hunting for the perfect wife/mom-mobile & endless testdrives... guess what she finally settled on?
A VW Routan SEL minivan hahaha.. traded-in our Endeavor for it. I think so far, this is our bestbuy! Negotiated $10K off the price, and a pre-installed OEM DVD Rear-seat Entertainment System came free with no additional cost (supposedly worth $1,500), our toddler loves it! Holy cow, what a deal... what a ride! Its got full napa leather, 258hp, 252torque, power sliding doors, power rear-hatch, power everything! :-) The 2nd row seats are full captain's chairs, it's like riding in a private jet... I would have traded my X if I didn't have a choice... this is the ultimate family mobile!

FYI, I was in the same boat and reluctantly settled for the auto wrx you mentioned (i.e., Impreza 2.5GT), because I got a good deal on it. Stock, it was kinda slow. So I did 2 simple mods: a downpipe and a Cobbs Accessport. I was floored at how the car was transformed. Zero to 60 mph is now the mid/high 5 second range (stock was 6.5). For fun I took it to the dragstrip, and it ran a 13.90 @ 97mph. Not bad for a grocery getter.
